Illinois ranks first in the number of new utility-scale solar projects

New Mexico generates more energy from solar power by far but this little tidbit found towards the end of the article surprised me. Good for us!

Mid-century wiring

Our house is a Chicago bungalow built in the 1950’s. We are swapping out ceiling fans but stopped when we saw these wires. There is one yellowish wire and three braided white wires. Can anyone help identify how to pair them safely to the new ceiling fan wires (black and white)?

An Irving Park church is looking for WW2 letter recipients

In 2006, Irving Park Lutheran Church discovered a treasure-trove of over 1000 wartime letters written by servicemen and women.

So far, we’ve been able to reconnect more than 148 original letter writers or their families with these historical communications–but we’re still searching for more writers or their relatives.

You could help reconnect these valuable letters with their families. If you recognize a name on this list, please contact the Irving Park Lutheran Church office.

(click here to see the list of names on the church's website.)

Chicago Data Portal

I'm flinging this question out into the great reddit maw in hopes that someone bites. Does anyone have experience with the Chicago Data Portal? I friggin love this thing. Their business records are a great help with research... and therein lies the question. Some active businesses don't appear in the database: by legal name, doing business as name, or even postal address. I'm wondering 1) whether I'm doing something wrong or 2) some policy makes licensing unnecessary. For example, legal practices don't need a city license (as those go through the courts) while coffee shops do need a city license. There's a growing list of businesses that I can't find and would appreciate reddit's advice.

Lost Dog @ Mayfair

A Chicago Canine Rescue dog named Mira was lost at Foster & Tripp and has been seen running around Gompers Park. Please see her flier/photo attached.

If you see her- do NOT chase her. Please bring high value treats and slip leads to safely lure her towards you if you find her.

Please stop by the shelter if you need fliers, slip leads, treats, etc. to aid your search.

Call the volunteer bat line with any sightings, information, or questions that could help out.  773-329-1794

Transcript from federal court dismissing charges against the Broadview Six

Local reporters got a hold of the full court transcript. It's a doozy.

A new and refreshingly well-documented story about coyoutes in Chicago and Cook County. Hat tip to MIke Lowe at WGN for following this story for over a year.
