Student gyms at Duke

I'm an incoming grad student and was wondering how the gyms are like. I went to UF for undergrad and the facilities were phenomenal, so I'm hoping Duke has similar.

Specifically, are there multiple gyms available to students? And does any gym on campus have access to a hack squat machine? I can't do normal squats due to some back and neck issues, so hack squats are the safe thing my physical rehab specialist has recommended to me.

Where to get reasonably priced eye exam?

Howdy all! I'm starting law school in August and haven't done an eye exam in 7 or 8 years. I'd like to update my prescription before starting classes, but unfortunately LVIM's optometrist is booked until October.

What's a good place to make an appointment for an exam around here keeping in mind that I don't have a lot of money to throw around and am uninsured? And will they also measure my pupillary distance for me (I plan to purchase glasses online)?

LL.M. Cycle Recap: Duke bound! + LINK TO ALL APPLICATION MATERIALS

LINK TO MY APPLICATION MATERIALS

Well, after several years of checking on this subreddit and major changes to my law school path, I can finally say my time here is over.

Stats: 3.77 GPA US Bachelors, Above Average intl. "GPA" for LL.B., I am an American citizen and it is my only citizenship.

Results:

  • Harvard - R
  • UVA - A
  • Duke - A & $
  • Michigan - A
  • Georgetown - R

I will be attending Duke for an LL.M. this fall! After my interview with dean Oleg, my number one choice went from Georgetown to Duke immediately.

Why an LL.M.? I've taken a very unorthodox path and after VERY careful consideration and speaking to many different people in the areas and careers I'm interested in, I decided the risk of an LL.M. over a JD was worth it. This is *not* a path I would generally recommend, my circumstances make it somewhat reasonable. YMMV.

Anyway, I expected the Harvard R. That said, I was still upset only because I felt they were my best chance at fin.aid. Luckily, I got a little something from Duke and I have a subsidized apartment through the university now, so I can save a bit on money and headaches!

The Georgetown R, I feel, was due to me (politely) requesting a decision from them riiiight before Duke's deposit deadline. I needed an answer and I got one. I'd say I was bummed, but I already knew I was going to Duke at this point.

I loved Michigan and UVA, but their lack of financial aid made them automatic no-go's. Saying no to Michigan especially hurt because they had been a school on my mind for many years now.

Knowing how inaccessible the law school process can feel at times (especially if you come from a more humble background), I decided to share my application materials for everyone :) This will be most helpful for future LL.M. applicants, but may be a little useful for JD applicants as well.

If you have question, please don't hesitate to ask here or DM me!

Note: I've redacted information in the docs I don't want to make easily accessible on Reddit specifically. I'm comfortable with the amount of info shared in the document as it doesn't differ much from my LinkedIn, Instagram or other publicly available info on social media.
