Stop Flock Information Session

There will be an ALPR information session at the Tippecanoe Public Library Holman Branch, 627 South Street, at noon on Saturday, August the 22nd.

If you see protestors on Tuesday and want to know why they are holding signs by what look like mundane traffic cameras, this in-person meeting will elaborate on some of the many concerns citizens have with this mass surveillance technology.

Stop Flock Protest next Tuesday

Tuesday August 18th 5-6pm at your nearest Flock camera location. You can find one conveniently close to you via DeFlock.org.

Bring signs, do not vandalize the cameras, just show up and exercise your first amendment right to advocate for your privacy.

A private company collects the location history of every vehicle in Lafayette, and throughout the country with a network of over 80,000 cameras. Each tagging the location, plate, car info, saved and searchable in a database by any user with access. No warrant, no FOIA requests to verify ethics or compliance, no regulation on security of the data, use, or sale and distribution of the history of all our movements.

Learn about Flock Cameras right here in Lafayette

I am hosting a brief information session and group callout to advocate against the Flock Safety contract here in Lafayette. The meeting will consist of an overview of how these systems work and the impacts they have on us, local costs of the system pulled from records requests, and actions we can take to work toward their removal.

If enough people confirm that they will be in attendance, I can make accommodations for a larger space ahead of time.

Forming a Stop Flock-Lafayette Group

I can find no organized effort to contest the city and county contracts with Flock Safety for the lease of over 30 licence plate readers and data sharing services, so I'll try and start my own. The goal of the group will be the the limited objective of getting the Flock Safety contract terminated, and preventing the purchase of a similar system (like Motorola, Genetec, etc.)

I am of the belief that these cameras are a violation of our 4th amendment rights. After all if I'm not suspected or guilty of a crime, why are the police (through Flock safety) tracking my movements and recording them without a warrant? And if I were a criminal suspect, then it shouldn't be too hard to get a warrant and track me through lawful means.

If you agree and are interested in joining this movement, send me a message here on Reddit.

Nearby places to target shoot?

I know of the Linden Conservation Club and the Applied Ballistics indoor range, I didn't go to the Linden club enough to justify the annual fees and the indoor range isn't long enough for large rifle shooting. Where are some good, safe options to go target shooting of you don't have a good buddy with lots of land?

Is it possible to determine if there's additional equipment other than just the camera?

Can you tell from the outside if a falcon unit has additional hardware like the Raven mic installed, or would that be difficult to determine?

Organizing a DeFlock community effort

I strongly oppose Lafayette and Tippecanoe's contracts with Flock safety, and I know I'm not the only one. I want to help organize a community effort to push the city council to terminate the contract and put our taxpayer dollars toward something that doesn't violate our privacy and fourth amendment rights through overreaching surveillance.

The next city council meeting is June 1st, 6pm at the Common Council Chamber, 20 N 6th st.

If you are concerned about this as well, please prepare a 2-3 minute public comment and express your concerns respectfully to the council members. Being apathetic about you're privacy is what allows systems such as this to exist in the first place

I'm interested in helping with or forming a local DeFlock effort to organize the community toward informing and advocating for the termination of the contract, and would like some input as to how to go about that as well. I really like this town, but really dislike seeing these pop up with no pushback.

If you have absolutely no idea what I'm on about, you can learn more at DeFlock.org, Eyesoffindiana.org, EFF.org, and Benn Jordan's YouTube channel for a far better explanation than I could possibly give.

DeFlock Lafayette

The city contracts Flock Surveillance for automatic licence plate readers, the capabilities and use of which are a severe overstep in our privacy and 4th amendment rights. Is there currently an organized community effort to have them removed? I've spoken before City council but I think a greater number of concerned citizens would bring about positive change.
