Recording of press-con of Pres. Roxas: early Filipino accents when speaking English

This recording is not only interesting as a primary record for the economic, military, political etc issues discussed, but also for the subtle accent differences between today and the mid-2oth century Pinoys when speaking in English. Some observations:

  1. President Roxas has a semi-rhotic accent, dropping his final and post-vowel "r" sound, consistent with the Mid-Atlantic accent of the US upper-class.

  2. The emcee, Felipe Buencamino III (later to die in the ambush of Dona Aurora Quezon by Huks) seems to use the Spanish-style "distinccion/ seseo" when pronouncing "c" in certain words and names such as "Valencia (he says Valenthya)."

  3. Most of the speakers pronounce "the" as either "thee" or "dee" instead of "thu/tha" more common today.

Catholic churches?

Howdy y’all! We’re an RC family and we often go to Sacred Heart because it’s centrally located (we grocery shop after mass) and near my office (I sometimes work weekends). Good church, priest, choir/ band. However they only have 2 Sunday masses and if we don’t wake up at the right time we could miss mass.

Can anyone tell me about the other parishes? Family is bilingual so we can attend Spanish masses if the time is right, but the kid is really sneezy when he smells incense.

Thanks y’all!

De vs du, en vs dans

Bonjour a tout le monde!

Cradle anglophone/hispanoparlante here. When would one use de vs du and en vs dans? In Spanish with which I’m familiar of is slways de and un is always en. The French distinction is something I need to understand better.

Merci bien!

pls critique and comment

A rare occasion where I had access to a heavy bag (100lbs). What should I work on? From the way the bag moves when I hit it, do I need to be doing anything to generate more punching power?
