Any groups or events in Abilene to for people in their 20’s to hang out?

Sup everyone, 22M looking for either groups or events to hang out in. It can be pretty much anything, I’d just like to try new things with people in my age group. Abilene is notorious for nothing to do here but maybe I’m just not looking hard enough so if you know someone or something comment or send me a DM.

ACU Student Help Request

My name is Keith and I am a junior at ACU! I am conducting research that is local to Abilene and the surrounding cities. I am seeking to get engagement with a quick 5 minute survey to inform my research writing and presentation about public health and healthcare perception.  The purpose of the study is to analyze how healthcare practitioners in and around Abilene perceive, understand, and navigate social determinants of health (SDOH) in their respective practices and how it informs delivery of care to underserved populations. It seeks to address gaps in provider knowledge and examine barriers to resource-limited populations, and in turn, create an evidence-based guide for increasing the effectiveness of practice. To qualify to participate, you must be a health care worker in Abilene, Texas or one of the surrounding counties or cities including Impact, Cisco, Wylie, Potosi, Clyde, Baird, Merkel, or other local communities.

If you or any colleagues of yours are interested in participating, please follow the attached link, where you will be presented with the federally required Consent Form and study background with more info.

Thank you!

Do you live near one of the data centers? What does it sound like?

I’m an artist working on a project about the impact of AI data centers, particularly the noise.

Seen lots of reports of humming and droning sounds in the news..

...but I was curious to hear from people first hand, what does it really sound like if you live near one. Got a recording?

Any better at night, always on?

Moving to Abilene Soon

My husband and I are moving to Abilene soon, and we are looking for the alternative scene in town. We're elder millennials looking for bars/restaurants/coffee shops/etc that cater to the artsy/LGBTQ/hipster crowd. Any tip or suggestions?

Other than Guitars, how are y’all getting dates??

For reference I’m a 26M. It feels like such an odd age to be single. Not in the sense of I have to be in a relationship at this age but in the sense of I’m too old for college girls and I’m right before the age those college girls are getting divorced(~28). Plus most women in this town want a dude who’s wayyy older and/or country. I’m just a black dude trying to find a wife. lol

All that to say, how are yall finding partners?

Looking for honey bees

Hello I am a local photographer. I am looking for a place I can take pictures of honey bees or bumble bees. I have checked out some parks and the lake, but the flowers have been mowed down. Does anyone know of a public place with flowers or have seen any bees? Please reach out if you have any information. Thanks for your help.

Hey guys, I’ve been writing and producing on my own for a while now and honestly I’d like to get with some other musically inclined people and make some music for fun. Idc if your male or female as long as your chill and love music .

I usually mad pop, songs but I’d be down to try other types of music. Shoot me a dm or comment if you’re interested.

data center- should I be concerned?

Im honestly just looking for advice and thoughts from other residents of Abilene and I hope this post is on topic enough for this subreddit.

My fiancé and I moved here about five months ago. We bought a home, we were both tired of where we were living at the time. All of my family lives in Abilene including my parents so we thought it’d be a good to have support here. We never planned on staying here forever. And i wasn’t exactly aware of the situation unfolding here. I didn’t know there was a housing crisis and when I heard about the data center it definitely raised some red flags. Buying a home in Abilene was still much more affordable than buying a home where we’re from(we would never have been able to afford a home there). But I can’t help but think I’ve made a huge mistake. I am very scared of the water and power shortages that will be coming. And I’m also scared that this might even cause the pricing of our home to eventually fall. Why would anyone want to buy a house in Abilene if it becomes unlivable. And I’m not trying to frighten anyone else about this topic or start any arguments. But this data center is very large and will need a lot of water and power. I really would hope that no one would build any sort of infrastructure that would end up displacing thousands of families but it’s certainly not something that hasn’t been seen before. So my fiancé and I have really been trying to figure out if it’d be best to leave sooner rather than later, and when would be the best time for that economically. I’m very young and not an experienced home owner but might it be worth it to lose some money selling the property or should we rent it out?

A new website just went up about the Data center in Abilene, and the on the ground impacts here in town.

I thank who ever put this up and is trying to bring these issues to the forefront.
