How to cope with things not working the same in PS 2026

How to cope with things not working the same in PS 2026

I go back and forth on posting my frustrations here.
ETA: Quick selection tools are especially bad. I can't help but feel like that is by design to get me to pay for more AI credits.

I've used this program for nearly 20 years and I am going in circles because nothing is the same. I feel gaslit by all the answers and videos I watch.

I've never had a problem watching tutorials and finding solutions for my photoshop needs, but currently I feel like I am using a different program than all the rest.

It's little things- my shortcuts do not work. That is muscle memory for me, and Photoshop 2026 just ignores it mostly. Actually worse than ignoring it- it works sometimes which also gives me mixed signals. (Like hitting G for fill, J for healing brush etc)

I feel crazy. They changed the tool layout for example- supposedly lingering over the tool or holding the mouse on it will tell you what the tool is- nothing else does. Mine doesn't do this so I don't know which healing brush I'm using here and nothing labels it otherwise. So my shortcuts don't work and I got all these symbols without knowing what they are.
I feel insane.
I just want to follow advise but I really do not understand why it acts like a completely different program.

Adobe, why are you like this? Refine Edge Brush tool broken?

I did post in r/photoshop
Posting here for more feedback.

I am in Photoshop 26 and I follow every step in each tutorial until the Refine Edge Brush tool comes up. My tool does not act the same. I have tried all the tutorials listed below. Am I an idiot? Is the tool different in 26?

I follow everything until they use the "refine edge brush" and I get nothing like what they show.
It always makes everything WAY worse.
I will post a photo in the comments of what "way worse" looks like

I am sick of this. Dozens of tutorials. My hair refinement never looks close to these. Is my Refine Edge Brush Tool broken?
