7 day TMB counter-clockwise

7 day TMB counter-clockwise

Started July 1st Courmayeur and finished July 7th. Didi not need spikes at Col de Fours, almost no snow. We started in cloudy skies on the 1st and light rain at Ferret. Ran/hiked in shorts the whole way and just pulled the rain jacket the first day at Ferret.

Started early on the long days and kept the heat at bay. It was nice to get to the refuges by 2 to clean up before the crowds showed up. The last day into Courmayeur the heat was pretty bad on the descent.
Cheers!

Snow conditions

Hello, will be starting Sunday in courmayeur and go counterclockwise. I’m interested to know what the snow conditions (if any) are at the following places:
- Col Ferret
- Col Du BonHomme
- Col des Fours
Has anyone had any need for spikes in these spots or any others along the route?

Currency in Switzerland and France

Hello people! I’m planning to be on the TMB in a couple of weeks and I was wondering if I should take some Swiss francs with me for the stretch from courmayeur (where I’m starting from) to Les Houches. More specifically, I still have to pay some lodging fees at Aubergue des Glaciers and also in Trient. Do all of these places take euros as well? If not, where would be the best place in Courmayeur to get Swiss francs considering I’ll be going through small towns and on the trail most of the day so banks may be closed when I get to each village/town?

Thank you in advance!

Epoch batteries back ordered

Does anyone know of a place that currently has any Epoch 105aH Essential LifePO4 batteries actually in stock? All the places that I’m finding online have them dropped shipped from Epoch and they have been back ordered now for 2 months. Any dealers have them in stock?

Rear suspension recommendations

I have a stock 2024 Tacoma TRD Off-Road and I am looking to put a camper on it. The camper will be about 530lbs. I am looking for suggestions on what to do with the rear suspension to better support the camper. I have been considering either putting on airbags, SumoSprings (blue ones rated for 1400lbs), or the ICON coil spring kit (rated .5” lift with 600lbs load).

I know that the truck comes with 1.5” to 2” lift in the rear over the front from the factory. I’m not looking to lift the front at all and if the camper ends up leveling the truck then I’d be fine with that. I just don’t want it to sag in the back.

The camper will stay on most of the time except probably a couple months of the year. And during those times I have the camper off I’m concerned that putting something too aggressive in terms of lift (like coils) in the back would only add to the factory rake. At the same time I don’t want to stress the factory coils over time if they are not meant to carry that much weight all the time.

  1. For those people with the same stock setup and a camper in the back, would ~500lbs in the back level the truck?

  2. Has anyone here used SumoSprings with stock suspension? How have they performed with load in the back?

  3. Any idea how much the icon coils would add to the existing 1.5-2” rake when no load is on the bed?

Thanks!
