I just picked up an old beatstep from Facebook marketplace. It works fine. I am pairing it with my Roland s1 tweak synth. The transport controls and sequencer works fine, the sequencer triggers the synth like normal. but when I switch to control mode, for some reason I can't play the pads like a keyboard. When I am in control mode, no sounds trigger from the pads. What am I doing wrong?

I have the correct TRS midi adapter for the s1
