PGT: Tampa Bay Rays (45-33) dominate the Kansas City Royals (34-48) and split the series - a bid for franchise history falls short, but a win is a win is a win, and in the end - that's all that matters. [F: 13-2]

Resting vs. Active kcal in the Health app

Hey,

I'm more or less looking for some breakdown on how the Apple Watch actually calculates these values. I'm trying to progressively lose weight and document my eating habits over time, but I'm constantly suspicious that my Watch is over-reporting the actual kcal I'm burning off throughout the day.

I live a fairly sedentary lifestyle - office work, that sort of thing - and my Resting Calories are regularly in the range of 2800-2900 kcal before adding the Active in the mix - I'm fairly sure I'm not expending nearly 4,000 kcal a day sitting on my arse.

When I calculate my BMR - and even TDEE - using the Mifflin-St. Jeor formula, I'm getting numbers that are... substantially less than what my Watch tells me my Resting Energy is.

I thought about applying a 25-30% "accuracy" penalty in all my mathematicals about this, but it feels like that might just be trying to correct something that's fundamentally broken.

Anyone have any ideas?
