Violet Evergarden Slander
This is all being said in jest, I have no hatred for VE or the fandom.

Might be too specific to exist, but maybe I'm just bad at looking.

>!WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FUCK DO YOU MEAN GILBERT’S HER HUSBAND. It’s like marrying your adoptive dad. It’s like marrying your step-parent. I always thought “I love you” was said in an appreciative or familial way. He met her when she was a literal CHILD. And you’re telling me that not only was the buildup of the entire series thrown out the window (As a metaphor, let’s say Violet has a big gaping wound at the start of the show. Over the course of the episodes and specials, the wound is stitched, hurts less, begins to scar over… and then right at the end she rips the wound open again and tearily proclaims “this is how I actually want to live!”), but this is the shit I’m left with? Fuck the happy ending, I don’t care what the argument is for whether or not the movie was good. I don’t even know if I want to watch Recollections now. Literally the only reason why this finale isn’t compared to the Usagi Drop manga is because Violet just turned 18. Bro now I’m just angry. I thought I was just wrestling with some opinionate gripes but no I’m genuinely mad at a tv show. !<

>!I watched the Violet Evergarden movie tonight. There’s nothing wrong with it. Every plotline got tied up in the end, everything was resolved, everyone was happy. I guess it just didn’t meet what I imagined. I feel like I’d have kept Gilbert dead. The fact that he’s alive just feels somewhat off, even if his story gets resolved. Now, as much as it threw me off and still does, they wrote his inclusion pretty well in my opinion. Yuris was a great plot line too. But what really has me on the fence is the ending. Violet doesn’t “move on” or learn to be her own person. She comes running (or swimming) back to the major, and they live the rest of their lives on the island. Maybe I am pessimistic and think happy endings are bad, but it felt so off. It felt like the whole story, the show and the specials, were about Violet coming to terms with not having Gilbert in her life and becoming more of a human by herself, with help from the people around her. The ending almost felt like a factory reset on the entire series. It’s nice that she still worked as a doll on the island, but I’m almost left feeling sour. And that’s probably not the right way to feel about it, since the emotions of the ending are very much portrayed as positive. Maybe I’ll have different thoughts tomorrow.!<
>!Are these feelings justified or am I stupid?!<
