Thumbrest

After designing, modeling and printing a few prototypes I've finally got a thumbrest that is perfect (atleast for me). I went ahead and machined it out. I always hated how normal thumbrests sit so high and/or far back but now I can finally roll my support hand forward and lock my wrist while using a thumbrest, to me its more for a good index point without riding the slide but this one feels great compared to all the others I have tried over the years.

I wanted to get this done before I started sandblasting and coating everything so the next time I post my build will be 100% finished.

It shoots

Still have some tuning to do. Want to get my trigger pull weight down where I like it and going to remove the thumbrest and replace with one im making myself, I put it on since I already had it and never used it. Shoots great, only malfunctions was ammo haha i had some reloads with slight case bulge which worked in my factory gun but this one is a little tighter so ill have to tighten up my reload quality. Once I get everything how I want it ill start testing recoil springs until im happy with return to zero, as it is now its pretty accurate and im happy with it.

Ready to shoot

Just finished fitting and blending the small parts. Still have to adjust and tune the sear and sear spring, then its ready to shoot. After I know it shoots ill pull it back apart sandblast everything and coat it. I decided id try Kg gunkote to keep with the everything done myself theme. Im happy with how it turned out, now i hope it shoots good!

2011 build with 3d printed mill

Ive had my millennium machines milo v1.5 for over a year now learning cam and making small things like mag bases and belt attachments for mag pouches. Finally got brave enough to use it to build and fit a 2011. Using it manually everything is working out great. Slide to frame and barrel to slide is all fit up. Milled the front of the slide back to fit the sight block, still need to match the block with the slides profile and will probably mill the block flush with the frame. If you want an easy entry to learn cnc and metal work the milo is punching above its weight class for sure.

Getting closer

Did some more work and its starting to look like something now. Glad I decided to do everything myself. Ive got to clean the sight block up and match the profile to the slide and trying to decide if I want to leave the extra meat or mill it back flush with the frame. Im doing all my machine work on a diy 3 axis cnc mill and so far so good.

First sight block build

So originally I bought everything to send off to be built but plans changed after being told by several places they wouldn't mill my warwick wide slide for direct rmr. While I make a model of how I want the warwick slide to look and making the tool paths I grabbed an atlas slide to build everything myself.

Cheely XWF, atlas 4.25" slide, jarvis 4.25" threaded barrel(4.6" oal), d2c sight block. Ive gotten the slide to frame fit and started on fitting the barrel but hit a snag , barrel won't lock up because the slides barrel passage needs to be opened up a bit. Ive included pictures where i mocked up my build with the warwick slide before getting the atlas slide.

Since im stuck for the moment while I work out what to do i decided to put the frame, slide and barrel on to see how it looked. I had planned on a flush fit sight block install and with everything fit up the sight block overhangs the frame so I guess im going to be cutting more off the slide.

Also I've got a question for anyone who has built one with a sight block. When it comes to fitting and getting the sight block clocked right do I want it tight to the shoulder of barrel threads? If so what's the best way to go about doing that?
