Swimming at De Nekker — what is the lake actually like?

Hi everyone!

I’m thinking about going swimming at De Nekker in Mechelen, but I’ve never swum in a lake in Belgium before, so I’d love to hear from people who have actually been there.
— What is the swimming lake like?
— Is the water generally clean? Does it feel/smell clean when you’re actually in it?
— Is the water very clear or quite murky?
— What is the bottom like — sand, mud, stones, plants?
— Does it get deep gradually, or does it become deep quite quickly?
—How cold does the water usually feel in summer?
— Is it generally pleasant to swim there, or is it more of a place where people just go into the water to cool down?
How crowded does it get?
— Is there anything you wish you had known before going for the first time?

I’ve checked the official information about water quality and the swimming zone, but I’m more interested in what it’s actually like from personal experience.

Thanks! :)

Where can I still buy eclipse glasses in Brussels?

Hi! Does anyone know where I can still buy solar eclipse glasses (ISO 12312-2) in Brussels today?

I know they’re sold out in some places already, so I’d really appreciate any recent sightings / places where they’re still in stock.

Thanks a lot!

Balos ferry: how deep is the water when getting off?

Hi everyone!

I read online that when visiting Balos by the regular ferry, passengers sometimes have to get off the boat and either walk or swim a short distance to the beach.

Is this information still up to date? I’m especially interested in hearing from people who have been there very recently.

If it is still the case, about how deep is the water where the boat drops you off? Is it ankle-deep, waist-deep, or deeper?

Thanks so much!

Looking for a linen dress with lace sleeves in Chania

Hi everyone!

I’m looking for a dress in Chania and was wondering if anyone has seen something similar in any local shops.
Ideally, I’m looking for:
— a linen dress,
— around knee length (not a maxi),
— with lace details on the sleeves.

If you’ve seen anything like this, whether in the Old Town or anywhere else in Chania, I’d really appreciate your recommendations.

Also, besides the Old Town, are there any other good areas for shopping where I should have a look?
Thank you so much for your help!

Beach reading with a Kindle Paperwhite – any tips?

Hi everyone!
I’d really appreciate your advice.

I have a Kindle Paperwhite (11th generation) and I’m wondering if any of you have taken yours to the beach.
How risky is it, really? I’d love to read while I’m there, but I’m a bit worried about sand, sun exposure, and accidental contact with water. I know the Paperwhite is water-resistant, but I’m not sure how well it handles actual beach conditions.

I usually don’t rent a beach chair and just sit on a blanket on the sand, so I’m concerned about both sand and water.

If you’ve taken your Kindle to the beach, how did you protect it? Mine is currently just in a regular case. Are there any accessories, protective sleeves, waterproof pouches, or other things you’d recommend buying?
Thanks in advance! I’d be very grateful for any advice, tips, or experiences you can share.

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for a place in Brussels that serves Bumble Coffee: it’s a drink made of espresso and fresh orange juice over ice, usually layered. I haven't been able to find it on any local menus so far.
Does anyone know a cafe that has this?
Also, I'm interested in any other spots that serve unusual or signature coffee drinks. I've already tried the standard options, so I'm looking for something more unique.
Thank you very much for any leads!
