Restaurant in Mechelen

Hey mensen!

Apartment hunting in Mechelen: budget and neighbourhood advice

Hi everyone,

I recently started working in Mechelen and I’m looking for a 1 bedroom apartment, ideally around €800–€850 per month including common costs. I have a stable job with a permanent contract and I’m hoping to move in around August.

I’m new to searching in Mechelen, so I wanted to ask:

  • Is this budget realistic for a decent apartment?
  • Which neighbourhoods are nice and safe to live in?
  • Do you have any tips for finding private landlords or avoiding scams?

Thanks a lot!

Traditional tajine being opened at the table

A short clip of a warm tajine served at the table. I really like the reveal moment when the lid comes off and the steam comes out.

Still learning food video editing and restaurant promo content, so feedback from restaurant owners or people in hospitality is welcome. What would you improve: the shot, pacing, text or music?

Hi everyone!

For my bachelor's thesis at KULeuven, I am conducting research on the Belgian beer market, specifically focusing on the brand Tout Bien. I am very curious to find out how young adults in Flanders perceive this brand compared to the traditional breweries.

Are you between 18 and 35 years old and do you live or study in the region? You would help me tremendously by filling out my short survey (it only takes about 3 minutes!).

You can find the questionnaire here:

Thank you very much in advance for your help!

Trying to socialise

Hi,

Very uncomfortable but here goes. M36 here. I moved to Mechelen last year, to live together with my GF and left my whole social circle which is now pretty far away. I like to live in Mechelen, everything is lively and close to each other. But it’s hard to get to know people around. Working fulltime in Antwerp, GF working often when I’m off so feeling quite somewhat lonely sometimes.

Tried to subscribe for a CVO course this year but the course I’d like to do (renovating) was cancelled. Maybe as from September, let’s hope. Not sure the people in Mechelen fit me very well? I can’t just walk into a bar or a store at Bruul or Ijzerenleen and talk to random people, I’m to introvert for that. 😄

How do grown ups make new friends? Finding a new hobby is one possibility, I guess. Any table tennis clubs around? I’ve done that for quite some time before.

I also like games, but not the very difficult boardgames. Cards, chill boardgames, console gaming,… Walking, but definitely not running. I’m just not that social but it would be nice to have some new people around, just to know each other 🙃

Bars to play chess at in Mechelen?

Are there any bars in Mechelen that have regular chess nights, or that are popular with chess players?

Don't have to be proper tourneys, just some good games in a chill café.

Thanks in advance!
