Abhishek Malhan and the rest of the influencers are incredibly insecure

I am absolutely flabbergasted by Abhishek, Prish, Rida and Rhea getting insecure of Parul and voting her out.

Fukra Insaan tells Parul you’re saying these dialogues to get a reel made while the absolute waste of space was calling himself “Jaikant Shikre” of this game to get a reel made himself.

His misogyny is equally annoying. He likes Krystal because apparently “She’s sweet and innocent” while an enterprising woman Parul gets told by him “Jaa ke baal bech”.

The same goes for Prish who votes anyone out because he doesn’t like them and feel they will hog the limelight.

This has literally turned into Big Boss now where people get triggered out of insecurity and vote out people who they don’t like. Munawar was right all along in his exit speech.

Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom

I just finished Tuesdays with Morrie, and I couldn’t put it down. I don’t usually highlight books, but this one had me getting out of bed in the middle of the night to grab Post-it notes because I kept finding passages I wanted to come back to.

It didn’t feel like I was reading a memoir. It felt like sitting through a therapy session, or listening to a loving grandfather share everything he’d learned about life.

I am sure I will go back to this book over and over again throughout my life whenever I feel confused in life. One of the rare books which deserves all the hype.

What’re you currently reading?

I am reading “The Kind worth saving” by Peter Swanson, 20% through it and about to give up!

The Kind Worth Killing

I don’t see this book recommended nearly enough. The premise is very simple - two strangers meet at a bar, he admits that he is cheating and she suggests killing the wife.

The multiple POVs worked really well because I was constantly changing my mind about who I trusted. Lily was easily the standout character. Every time I thought I knew where the story was going, it went somewhere else without feeling forced.

I flew through it in a couple of sittings. If you like psychological thrillers with smart twists and morally questionable characters, I’d definitely recommend it. One of my favourite thrillers I’ve read recently.

Solid read, 4/5.

Appreciation Post

My wish for you is that you find a book series that reminds you what it felt like to fall in love with reading.

There are good books, and then there are the rare ones that sneak past your adult cynicism and make you feel twelve years old again.

The ones that make you stay up until 3 a.m. promising yourself “just one more chapter.”

The kind that makes you feel like a kid discovering magic of storytelling for the very first time.

But I guess if you’re in this community, you already found it. ♥️

What’re you currently reading?

I am currently 20% into “The loneliness of Sonia and Sunny” by Kiran Desai and quite intrigued as to how their journey pans out. Needed something to cleanse my palate after having read 3 Dungeon Crawler Carl books in a row.

What are you guys currently reading and more importantly, are you enjoying what you’re reading?

Dungeon Crawler Carl!

I have never read sci-fi or a LitRPG so my expectations were really low of going into Dungeon Crawler Carl. I wanted to read something lighter after A Thousand Splendid Suns broke me.

And I had a ball reading DCC. I am in my 30s and I can’t remember the last time I had so much fun reading a book since Harry Potter in the mid 2000s. I couldn’t stop reading it and binged it in a day.

The premise is absolutely ridiculous. Earth has now been
turned into a giant alien dungeon where surviving humans/animals fight through increasingly difficult levels as the galaxy watches their progress like a reality show. It’s almost feels like Roadies meets Bigg Boss however the cast isn’t full of insufferable losers.

What did you make of DCC? And do you have similar suggestions (I am 50% through book 2).

A Thousand Splendid Suns

“Every street of Kabul is enthralling to the eye
Through the bazaars, caravans of Egypt pass
One could not count the moons that shimmer on her roofs
And the thousand splendid suns that hide behind her walls”

 – Saib-e-Tabrizi, 17th century poet

The title of the book is inspired by this poem titled “Kabul”. The protagonists of the story - Laila and Mariam take us to Kabul, Herat, and other parts of Afghanistan/Pakistan through a period of 50 years.

The story of the two soulmates is absolutely devastating, each subsequent chapter made me rethink and more cognizant of my male privilege. It’s been a long time since I picked up a book and couldn’t put it down.

I regret not reading this earlier. I had read the Kite Runner about 18 years ago in school and hadn’t gotten around to reading this masterpiece.

The book is an ode to the strength of the two women who love despite mostly everyone around them being zaalim, oppressive and tyrannical. As the poet of our times Afusic says in the song “Pal Pal” - “Log hai zaalim bade, in main jafa dekhi hai”.

The Travelling Cat Chronicles

I had bought the book back in 2022, and I read about 50 pages before giving up.

Having finished the book today after picking it up last week, I am convinced in my belief that the universe aligns to only make you experience something once you’re ready for it. The sheer amount of sincerity and earnestness of the characters in this book would have been lost on me a few years back.

As it says on the lid, the book is about the chronicles of a cat who’s traveling. The love between the cat and the cat parent is so pure that it tugs at your heartstrings. The book definitely made me want to be a kinder and a more earnest person. Also, reminded me of Amrita Pritam’s poem “Main Tenu Fer Milangi”. Beautiful book, 9/10.
