Emergency accommodation for a stray

Emergency accommodation for a stray

A very endearing stray tom has been coming over for dinner for the past few evenings, and he needs medical attention unfortunately. He is reasonably friendly with food involved, so I think over the next few days I’ll be able to coax him into a carrier.

The issue is that I’ve had a look at the options to get him help, and it looks like no matter what, he’d have to spend an evening in my apartment before business opens the next day.

He’s an unfixed stray, probably with fleas, and I have a cat already that he absolutely cannot interact with. I assume with the stress of being caught, he’ll also be going mental for the night.

My best thought at the moment is to set aside a bathroom for him—I have a shower cubicle that is big enough for a litter box and bed/cave. My partner is concerned that he’ll spray everywhere and it’ll be impossible to ever get the smell out, even if it’s a tiled shower. I’m also trying to gauge if that set up would be too stressful for him, but I’m not sure what other options I have.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Retail worker getting robbed at work

My partner works retail and was closing with one other guy last night. Security guard left at 10pm on the dot, leaving them to finish locking up. 5 mins later, they’re both jumped by two guys who’d been lying in wait.

My partner fortunately was able to get away as they were trying to grab him, but his coworker wasn’t so lucky, and my partner is understandably still very shaken up. He doesn’t want to do closes anymore as the company he works for obviously can’t guarantee it’s safe.

Before he goes in today, we wanted to see what protections he has. IMO there is a good bit of company negligence that contributed to the issue.

  1. Cameras in front of the shop don’t work, management knows this but hasn’t fixed them. At least some people locally would know this from trying to get footage themselves for stolen bikes etc.
  2. Routinely understaffed and head office won’t authorise more hiring. There were three staff+security rostered last night, but there’d

often be closes with only two people.
3. Security and the third staff member left at 10pm exactly rather than waiting the extra few mins for the remaining two to finish locking up, which seems like a policy/training issue.

Would he be protected if he refuses to close again because of the anxiety, or can they still “just happen” to give him so few hours he has to quit? Is he entitled to any kind of aftercare?

Thanks in advance for any advice
