Rockies vs Yukon vs Alaska
Me and my wife are planning our vacation for summer next year and we have settled for Canada - Alberta/BC/Yukon + Alaska, but not precisely on the itinerary. We plan to spend roughly 3 weeks travelling and exploring and currently we are inclining to rent a campervan or RV.
Something about us:
- we are from Europe
- we love mountains and hiking and trailrunning
- we love wildlife, although my wife is kind of scared of bears
- we dont mind checking out the "instagram" spots, but we usually do it very early in the morning, if we cant we stay away from them
- we are more interested in the nature than in the city sightseeing
- we like to talk to locals in smaller villages and support their local businesses
- I spent a year working in Banff NP years ago, so I roughly have idea what this part of Rockies looks like
- we already travelled NZ south island in 3 weeks in campervan, so we do have some campervanning experience
- both of us are drivers
Now the itinerary ideas, these are all drafts and very rough sketches. The only thing that is set is maximum time is 21 days, but realistically 17-18 days on the road + 3 days extra for travelling to and from Canada:
- Rockies into Vancouver Island - Calgary - Banff NP - Yoho NP - Jasper NP - Mt. Robson PP - Gold Rush Trail - Pacific Rim NP - Cathedral Grove - Vancouver
- Calgary to Anchorage - Calgary - Banff NP - Yoho NP - Jasper NP - Mt. Robson PP - Dawson Creek - Alaska HW - Whitehorse - Kluane Lake NP - Matanuska Glacier - Anchorage
- Alaska and Yukon - Anchorage - Talkeetna - Denali NP - Fairbanks - Alaska HW - Top of the World HW - Dawson City - Whitehorse - Kluane Lake - Wrangell-St Elias NP - Kenai Fjords NP - Anchorage
Any suggestions and/or tips on the itineraries we currently have? I realize 2 and 3 are almost twice as long as 1, but if either 2 or 3 are more worth it, we can cut out some parts and make it shorter. These itineraries are just rough ideas, what we thought might be worth visiting.
