Does nyc have a better food scene than LA? Help settle a debate.

Hey everyone,

My friends and I disagree on which city has a better food scene. What better means or what criteria to use is totally up to you.

I already asked the LA sub and on here to get another perspective. Thank you.

Does LA have a better food scene than New York?

Most people I know say New York beats LA in terms of food choices and quality. I'm not so sure about that. What do you guys think?

Was biglaw worth it for you? Do you have any regrets?

Are you happy with where you have ended up? Do you have any regrets? The regrets could be anywhere from choosing the 'wrong' practice group to not taking the aid at another school. Or anything else.

Should I go into Tax Law? How is tax in general and is LLM necessary?

I was initially hoping to do M&A but after seeing the posts about how AI can easily replace M&A juniors I'm reconsidering and trying to see what else is there.

I am worried that I will be in a disadvantage since I don't have a LLM in tax. Also worried that tax is not a big money generating area unlike M&A which could limit growth. Also, harder to lateral?

Also is tax more AI resistant since it's very complicated?

Thanks for any insights. I really appreciate it.

How much per head does your firm reimburse for summer associate lunches and dinners?

My firm reimburses $30 for each person for lunch and $60 for dinner for each person. What about yours? Maybe also include the approximate vault ranking without doxxing yourself so we can see if there is a trend. Thank you. Working at a V50 in NY.

How can Cravath keep up without actively hiring laterals? Whether they are associates or partners?

How can they keep up with other firms that actively hire partners to replace partners that have left and get new talent when there are groups? I'm honestly very impressed. Does that mean they value their associates more than other firms?

What matters when lateraling? The current lawfirm/practice group you are at? The law school you graduated from? Your law school gpa? Your work experience? What are the truly important factors?

If you start at a V5 for corporate law, will your low ranked law school hold you back?

Let's say you graduated from a T100 law school but managed to get hired by a V5. Say Cravath as an example. Will your law school hold you back from being promoted in form or lateraling to other opportunities? Is it worth it to give up aid at the t100 for sticker for a spot at school like Penn or Columbia or Harvard? Please don't fight the hypothetical. Take it as taken.

What makes Cravath consistently #1 on vault?

Don't just say dead prestige or riding the past. What makes Cravath #1 on the vault for real.

Are Cravath lawyers really better than others?

Lateraling to lower ranked firm to make partner?

Does this happen at all? I feel like this happens with some frequency but I don't get why. Wouldn't such laterals be competing with the new firms home grown associates? Also wouldn't these laterals have basically 0 business? Is this relatively common/possible move?

Why not just stay as a counsel/NEP and/or a senior associate?

Let's say I'm not good enough to make equity partner but I'm happy to just being a senior associate/counsel. Why do more people not choose this option? Is it even available at most firms?

Won't it even get easier as you get used to the same role?
