Why do people ask this sub instead of their partners?

Honestly it's so weird how frequently this sub gets posts like "My partner is doing X and Y. Does that mean they want Z?"

How on earth would strangers on the internet know? And why haven't you asked them?

Communication!

(I know in reality people must want to feel heard and seen by more people and vent - but it still seems weird)

CP progression course and I'm terrified

Got my CP certification in Algodonales a couple years ago. On my ~20th flight during that course, I experienced a freak full frontal collapse due to a very violent twisting thermal (like the top of a dust devil) a few hundred metres off the ground. The whole event was probably a few seconds at most, but it felt like an eternity. I followed instructions over the radio, put my hands up, and the EN-A glider reinflated automatically. But the instructors were surprised by what happened and concerned. My impression is that they really didn't expect that magnitude of collapse on that stable of a wing in those conditions and altitude. I flew more in the following days, definitely scared but I managed.

Now I'm booked onto a 4-day CP progression course in the UK and I'm having last minute doubts. Do I even enjoy flying or am I just doing it to prove to myself that I can conquer fear? I'm not comfortable in the air, I'm usually spending my time looking forward to landing. I think I'm a pretty diligent student but no amount of preparation makes this 100% safe. All my Kenyan friends are trying to convince me to stop the sport, because they've lost multiple friends to it (even professionals). But there are moments of beauty and grandeur...

Can someone please just tell me that it's statistically most likely that everything is going to be okay on this 4-day CP progression course?😂

Sisy Hammahalle sounds SIGNIFICANTLY better than Berghain, fight me

Berghain has more muddiness and reverb, also with dead spots.

Hammahalle has crisp punchy clarity that rattles my ribs at every location in the room, but I can still have an audible conversation without screaming. It's a work of art. Plus flamethrowers.

Major error in CaAKG publication

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S053155652300075X#bb0240

The bottom row in Table 1 in this Experimental Gerontology review paper claims CaAKG causes a 7-8 year lifespan increase in humans (and mentions a mechanism and dosage). The cited, linked paper, Kaur et al in Aging (https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9648810/) is entirely on Drosophila (not humans) and not on CaAKG either!

If a true citation to support this extraordinary longevity claim exists anywhere, I would love to see it.

Am I wrong or is this one of the more egregious errors you’ve ever seen printed in a peer reviewed journal?

For context, CaAKG is one of the main ingredients in Blueprint.

Hi, I fear and avoid crowd scans as much as the next guy (probably more than the next guy - I'm quite paranoid).

I'm aware that it is possible to do these safely and within regulatory tolerances.

I'm also aware that there are lots of unqualified laser shows out there in the wild, and many scenarios where it makes sense not to trust the operator.

Despite all this, other than 2-3 anecdotes, I have never seen data on the true rate/likelihood/severity of eye injuries caused by improper laser use. I know of one technician who lost vision in one eye when servicing a laser, and one festival security guard who has impaired vision from a hand-held laser pointer. Does anyone know of any studies or reports into this?

We've all seen some terrifying footage of horrific overpowered and noncompliant crowd scans. I really want to know what % of those people end up getting harmed, in practice.
