Garbage at EBC

I’ve read about EBC being full of trash. Is that true?

I would love to like make a positive impact and perhaps take some trash down with me when going down. Is that naive? Like a needle in a haystack stupid, as if the trash just accumulates rapidly anyways.

Why the tipping culture?

I come from a country that doesn’t tip, so perhaps that’s why I don’t get tipping. But I’m really wondering why they the tours don’t just cost more, so like guides and porters can earn more?

At least I read that people tip a lot, and so the expected amount is also increasing. So why not just remove the tipping and ensure people are well paid?

Barefoot active shoes?

I’m looking for some barefoot shoes for being active. Does anyone know about a shop, or maybe where to get them online?

Employees asking for reviews

I have been in Vietnam for a little over a week. It’s my first time in a country where I’ve experienced employees almost demanding reviews, and I was wondering what the reason is.

For example, I went on a tour, and the guide wanted to get a review and take a photo of it - later, after the tour had ended, the guide texted me because the review didn’t show up and he asked me to redo it. I went to a hair salon and the same happened. When I told both I would do it later, they pushed for me it to do it at the moment. A hotel I’m staying at says they’ll gift you items, if you leave them a 5-star review.

I understand they might get commission per good review, but I believe it has the opposite effect because I left both experiences with a negative feeling like they pressured me to rate them (and it’s awkward to rate someone 1 star in while they’re looking). I ended up deleting my reviews because I felt bad about it, and I will definitely not be going back.

Looking for events to connect with local or female travellers, Hanoi!

Any groups, events, or something else someone could recommend? I, F30, would love to meet other travellers or locals in Hanoi.

Disclaimer: I do not speak Vietnamese, only English.

Activities for solo travellers

Hi!

I’ll be in Vietnam for a month or so, and I’m interesting in finding some activities (in English, preferably).

I’ll be in either Hanoi or Saigon, depending on where I can do most.

For example, joining a weekly ceramic or cooking class, going on a female group trip, doing Muay Thai, or whatever it could be.

Thank you for any suggestions!

Coworking / coliving

Hi Hanoi! I’m soon to visit Hanoi, and I’m interested in finding some coworking/coliving places for remote workers/freelancers/digital nomads to work (and perhaps live).

I have only been able to find coworking places in Hanoi, but I am especially looking for the social part of a coworking/coliving community with events etc.

Thanks!

Job opportunities fake?

Hi all.

I have applied to many jobs at Mistral AI lately without luck over the last six months.

I do notice that the same roles are still vacant after months (and after me being rejected). Are they just keeping the roles online to create traffic, or are they just extremely selective?

Brazil overstay in 2017

I overstayed my tourist visa in 2017 for around 4 months.

I have not been back since, but I am considering going back for vacation, however I wonder how my visa overstay will be handled, which I hope someone can help with or maybe share their experience.

I have read different things - some information state the fines expires after 5 years, others say I will need to pay including interest rates.

I would like to pay the fine, if it didn’t expire, but preferably before entering to avoid issues and I would also like to know the specific amount ahead of time, considering their might be interests. I have tried contacting the Brazilian consulate in my country as well as the Brazilian federal police on email, but without luck.
