Fortune did NOT favour the brave ...

I'm in the training shed working on sword skill with TWIG, and I hear the roar of charred warriors outside the wall. We've beaten Fader, and it's night time. Anyway, I leap up onto the wall to see what's what, and there are three charred warriors there at the base of the wall trying to find a path up it. There isn't one, so I'm having a little fun shooting them.

Suddenly, here comes a greyling, whistling a happy tune, and he decides to attack the charred. I had already hit the one he attacked with several arrows, so the greyling ACTUALLY kills the one charred. And, I'm terribly sad because this little greyling was primed to have an entire lifetime of free drinks in the greydwarf bar somewhere telling this story, and then the other two charred just fuck his shit up. Poor little super-famous greyling.

No Events Since April Discharge

April sucked. A comedy of errors. Two-and-a-half weeks in the hospital, three total discharges, twice back to the hospital after recurrence. It was downright asinine. BUT ... since going back to Flecainide, Metoprolol, Furosemide, and extra Magnesium, I have not had an event since! Woot!

June's visit to the EP sucked, but my email saying that I didn't feel confident in the doctor I saw was answered very nicely and professionally. When I saw a different EP back in February, we had a great rapport. So, I will be seeing him in five months instead. I will also see the heart guy in five more months.

Since discharge, I have altered my sodium consumption, dropping it to between 1,500 and 2,000 mg per day, which is about half what we all eat without making an effort. By such reduction, my eGFR has risen from roughly 96 to 109. I go with Mrs. Dash salt-free spices and Nu-Salt (potassium instead of sodium). Yeah, I DO salt the pasta water and am fond of cheese, but I control the intake. Last bloodwork, sodium, magnesium, and potassium are all A-OK.

The only bad thing is that I have amiodarone-induced thyroiditis, which the endocrinologist said will likely resolve itself within a year. I'm asymptomatic, though, so I'm just waiting six months before I see him again.

So, after a rough spring, things have been quite good. I hope that everyone here who's going through similar bullcrap has as much success as I've had.

Cheers, all!

Problems with the Valheim Wiki

"Bug" is the only category that fits. The Valheim wiki has a phishing program trying to bypass my adblocker. Firefox's malware detector and Malwarebytes both identified the program: pishrust. It's not letting me see the wiki page. Also, the "please enable ads" bit is silly because the wiki header has an ad in it.

This post is a warning to folks who use the wiki. I'm not sure that anyone in here administers it. I did send a note about it through the "support" button on the wiki, so let's hope the code is fixed.

Very hard in the Ashlands

Serious question. With each mob doing a minimum of 300 damage at 0 stars in the Ashlands on "very hard," is it even playable solo? I mean, one mob at a time is probably doable. But, when you get the three warriors, two marksmen, an asksvin, and a morgen joins the party, you're just dead.

I know, too, that you can just run past them, but the mobs ARE faster than normal. And, starred enemies? Forget it. minimum 450 damage. Hah, and Lord Reto is doing almost 1,000 damage.

Sure, as a team, it's probably doable. But, solo? What does everyone think?

First day back at the pool

No A-fib events. I took it easy at Aquafit and did 40 minutes. It was GOOD to be back! Here's hoping the "no A-fib events" bit stays and that I can continue as my doctors have said.

Back to the pool

Welp, my doctors say that I can do normal activities and that, "Exercise only causes A-fib events if you're doing triathlons." I start back tomorrow for Aquafit in the pool. Wish me luck!

I wish I had been screen recording!

I was fighting a Vile, and I brought it very low in hit points. It ran over the top of this hill that bordered with the meadows, and as I crested the hill, this greyling swings and kills the Vile. Just about the best thing I've seen in my entire 3,000 hours.

Porcupine + Vilebone Set vs. Frostner

Hello, all! What's people's experience with the +20% damage with Vilebone set and Porcupine vs. Frostner? Frostner's blunt damage doesn't increase as you upgrade Frostner whereas Porcupines does?

Does the extra damage plus the higher overall damage equal the frost benefits over the long haul in your experience, or is the frost+spirit still better?

Porcupine is cheap to make, so I'll likely test this myself. I'm just curious what others' experience is.

Not impressed with the EP I saw yesterday

I went to the London Cardiac Institute yesterday to have a consultation. I've had two failed ablations and a dozen ER trips since November 17, 2025. Various doctors before this consultation had talked about a flutter ablation or, barring all other attempts to control my fib/flutter, a pacemaker, and this guy I saw said, "Nope." Just stay on the meds and start skipping breakfast every day. See, me being fat is the only reason I have A-fib (which is horseshit because one in four people will have it or already have it in their lifetimes). Never mind the fact that I showed up at 2:12 p.m. for a 2:30 appointment and was left in the consultation room for an hour before he came in. (The meds ARE actually working ... no problems after my 2.5-week hospital stay in April). I go back in six months)

Perhaps most disturbing was the fact that he sent the office staff member after me with a prescription for a beta blocker when I'm already ON a beta blocker, which I told him when I was in the office. I sent an email saying that I felt dismissed and lacked confidence in this guy. I had seen a different doctor for my video conference back in late February, and I requested that I see him for all further follow-ups.

I bet that the person in this Reddit who's from London will know who I'm talking about even if I don't name the guy.

Anyway, thanks for letting me vent. Good luck to everyone.

Joke of the Day

On the banks of a river in the Valheim meadows, two little green monsters are talking:

Monster No. 1: Hey, Bob. Why did you go to the chiropractor today?

Monster No. 2: Well, Phil, my neck was killing me.

Question ...

I just noticed that the bear set gives 30% health regen. The Elder power also does +30% regen. Gut says that they don't stack, but do they? Same thing with the +10% slash damage and the shackle?

New Plan on June 4

April 1: Ablation No. 2
April 2: Back to the ER with aura and irregular heartbeat.
Admitted. Discharged April 4

Lots of back and forth. In total, nearly three weeks during April in the hospital.

They determined that it was flutter and not fib. Stubborn flutter too.

Cardioverted and then back on flecainide because amiodarone IV almost killed me. Now, it's an official drug allergy. No issues since the last discharge.

Family doc this Thursday. See the cardiologist on the 4th. Going to ask about a right atrium ablation (No. 3) to take care of the flutter. Will be working with the folks in London to form a cohesive plan.

Wish me luck!

Something weird that I found out for the first time in my 3,000 hours

I knew that mobs attacked crops, but I did NOT know that mobs attack dropped veggies! I threw down a carrot, and a charred warrior attacked it. Shooty mobs don't, but melee mobs do. That's a way to distract powerful mobs in hardcore so that you can get away! Unknown if this is a bug or if it's by design. I don't use mods, so it's part of the base game.

Second ablation on April 1 failed. In the hospital for 2.5 weeks for the rest of April. Now home on flecainide, metoprolol, rivaroxaban, and furosemide. Three things left for options:

  1. Meds alone.
  2. Third ablation, this time focusing on right atrium for flutter instead of left atrium for Fib.
  3. AV-node ablation to sever all electrical connections and pacemaker.

Appointments start on Wednesday. We'll see.

SO over it.
