Only one Judas Priest member remains from the lineup that recorded this amazing live album

’98 Live Meltdown was released in 1998 and was the first Judas Priest live album to feature both Tim “Ripper” Owens and Scott Travis. Recorded during the Jugulator World Tour, it captures the band at a time when they had embraced a heavier, rawer sound to match the musical climate of the 1990s.
Five tracks from Jugulator feature on the 24-track album: “Blood Stained,” “Burn in Hell,” “Bullet Train,” “Death Row,” and “Abductors.” The set also includes downtuned, more aggressive versions of several classics, making it a clear contrast to the cleaner, more polished 1980s sound of Priest… Live.
What makes the album particularly interesting today is that Scott Travis is the only member of Judas Priest who remains in the band from the lineup that recorded this live album.

Chris Slide retires

The legendary drummer Chris Slade, known for his work with AC/DC, Gary Moore and Uriah Heep, among others, has announced his retirement after more than 60 years as a professional musician.
“It is with a heavy heart that I announce my retirement from drumming. I’m approaching 80 years old and have been playing professionally since I was 16. I’ve had a good run,” Slade says, while also thanking the fans who have followed him throughout the years.

Slade joined AC/DC in 1989 and went on to play drums on the band’s 1990 album The Razors Edge. The record became one of the biggest albums of AC/DC’s career and included classics such as “Thunderstruck,” “Moneytalks” and “Are You Ready.”
He also appears on the 1992 live album AC/DC Live, recorded during The Razors Edge World Tour, and played on “Big Gun,” AC/DC’s 1993 contribution to the soundtrack of the Arnold Schwarzenegger film Last Action Hero.

Slade left AC/DC in 1994 when Phil Rudd returned to the band, but more than two decades later he was called back. In 2015, he rejoined AC/DC for the Rock or Bust World Tour and remained with the band until 2016.

Did You Visit Phoebus Amphitheatre in Bangkok in the 1990s?

Did anyone here spend time in Bangkok in the mid-1990s and remember the Phoebus Amphitheatre Complex on Ratchadaphisek Road?

I’m researching an article about Phoebus and its concert history. A remarkable number of international bands performed there during the 1990s, with documented shows including Michael Learns to Rock (1994), Blind Guardian and Black Sabbath (1995), and Shed Seven (1996), as well as performances by Thai artists.

I’d especially like to hear from anyone who actually visited Phoebus, worked there, or attended a concert there. What was the complex like inside? It seems to have contained several different entertainment areas, possibly including a pub/nightclub, cocktail lounge and concert venue. I’m trying to understand how these different sections were arranged and, most importantly, where within the Phoebus complex the major concerts actually took place. Was the “Amphitheatre” a dedicated concert hall, or was it part of one of the other entertainment areas?

I’m also trying to establish the exact address and location of Phoebus, what buildings were immediately around it, and what occupies the site today.

Regarding the old photograph attached to this post: I suspect that the large parking area visible on the left-hand side of the photograph may have been the Phoebus parking lot, but I have not been able to confirm this. If anyone recognizes the view or can identify exactly where Phoebus stood in relation to the buildings and road in this photograph, that would be extremely helpful.

If you were in Bangkok during the 1990s and remember Phoebus, Capitol, Yaohan, or the old Ratchada nightlife scene, I’d be very grateful for any memories, photographs, concert tickets, flyers, advertisements, or other information. Even small details could help reconstruct the history of this largely forgotten Bangkok concert venue.

Remembering Uriah Heep’s 1986 singer Steff Fontaine

The powerful American vocalist’s brief spell with Uriah Heep in 1986 remains one of the more overlooked chapters in the band’s long history. Fontaine joined while Heep were still in their Equator era, replacing Peter Goalby, while Phil Lanzon took over on keyboards from John Sinclair. His first show with the band was at Club Soda in Montreal on September 7, 1986, as the new line-up embarked on a North American tour.

The set remained strongly connected to Equator, featuring “Heartache City,” “Rockarama,” “Angel” and “Bad Blood,” alongside other ’80s material and Heep classics such as “July Morning,” “Gypsy” and “Easy Livin’.” Fittingly, Equator held a special place in Fontaine’s heart. He later recalled:

“I loved the Equator record with a passion. For some reason very few people bought that, but it’s my favorite Uriah Heep record.”

His later years brought considerable hardship, including a period without a permanent home, before he was eventually able to settle into an apartment of his own. Fontaine died at his home in March 2026, aged 75.

Best song off Mötley Crüe (1994)?

Mötley Crüe (1994) marked the band’s only studio album with vocalist John Corabi. Produced by Bob Rock, the album introduced a heavier, more groove-oriented sound and featured all four members collaborating on songwriting. The recording sessions produced 24 songs over ten months, making it one of the band’s most ambitious creative periods
