Only one Judas Priest member remains from the lineup that recorded this amazing live album

’98 Live Meltdown was released in 1998 and was the first Judas Priest live album to feature both Tim “Ripper” Owens and Scott Travis. Recorded during the Jugulator World Tour, it captures the band at a time when they had embraced a heavier, rawer sound to match the musical climate of the 1990s.
Five tracks from Jugulator feature on the 24-track album: “Blood Stained,” “Burn in Hell,” “Bullet Train,” “Death Row,” and “Abductors.” The set also includes downtuned, more aggressive versions of several classics, making it a clear contrast to the cleaner, more polished 1980s sound of Priest… Live.
What makes the album particularly interesting today is that Scott Travis is the only member of Judas Priest who remains in the band from the lineup that recorded this live album.

Bassist Ian Hill joined Judas Priest in 1970 and never missed a show until September 21, 2026. He announced his retirement from the band today, October 9, 2026, due to arthritis complications. Happy Retirement, Ian!

Judas Priest bassist Ian Hill has retired from the band, effective immediately. Last month, Hill missed the final show of the band's 2026 tour in Hammersmith - his first absence in 56 years. Now, the rigors of the road have caught up with him, and it's time to call it quits.

"For a long time now, when asked 'how long can you continue?' - I've always answered 'until my performances suffer.' I hate to say it, but that time has come."

Judas Priest plays "Night Crawler" at PNC Bank Arts Center (Holmdel, NJ - Sept. 26, 2025)

Ian Hill has announced his retirement, with Judas Priest moving forward with a new bassist. As sad as it is to see Ian go (though great it's on his terms), I'm glad the band will continue on. Even after seeing Judas Priest multiple times over the past 20+ years, I still cannot get enough of them live. And as Rob Halford and co proved just over a year ago at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ, they've earned their keep as Metal Gods and then some.

Here's a clip of them at that Sep 26, 2026, show playing "Night Crawler" (my favorite song off my favorite Judas Priest album 'Painkiller')!

Bonus Fact/Humble Brag - at the end of the clip is a picture of me meeting Judas Priest during their SiriusXM Town Hall back in March 2018. Minutes prior, I actually got to ask Halford a question on-air about what inspired his singing style... but thats a story for another time (😉).

Sooo... They randomly decided to drop the original 1976 masters on streaming platforms, with (finally) the correct song order? With this we have FOUR versions of SWoD on apple music lmaooo

Edit: Scratch that last bit, it's actually FIVE different versions of SWoD with the remixed and remastered version on apple music
