Hello JP reddit!!! L.R. Shelton here and its so good to see you guys again. Have a banger remaster today for you guys as I just got back from a busy summer! One of my favorite JP songs and will admit the juice was juiced on the audio so best sound system please :)! Got to see Priest back in 2021 and they were AWESOME! No political opinion here by the way, let's respect each others. I don't wanna share political views by posting this. It's just that Priest's videos are sometimes weirdly made (exemple : the atrocious AI bikes during Hell Bent)

My Favorite is Necromancer and Betwen the Hammer and the anvile

So, a while ago, a made a song discussion post about Angel, how it was the most beautiful JP song, and why I loved it so much, and I wanna do the same for Freewheel Burning.

I actually overlooked this song for a long time, considering it one of the least best off of Defenders of the Faith. However, now that I own the album on CD, I’ve been playing it again and again, and I must say, I heavily slept on this beast.

It’s a blisteringly fast track that really gets the energy going. While I’m not the biggest fan of the main riff, and I think the chorus is just good, just about everything else about this song is incredible.

In particular, the little bridge before and after the solo, is INCREDIBLE. I love when Rob spits out lyrics lightning fast like that, like in similar parts of Hell Patrol and Persecution.

And the solo itself. Damn. Priest really went all out with their solos on Defenders huh? Rock Hard Ride Free, The Sentinel, and THIS? It feels intense, it feels powerful, it feels heroic! It’s absolutely incredible.

Also, something that I didn’t know about until recently was that the song had a really cool little intro before the opening riff that was exclusive to the single version of this song. Check it out if you haven’t. I really wish it made it onto the album.

So what’re your thoughts on Freewheel Burning? Would you consider it one of your favorite Priest openers?

One of my personal favourite Priest song which unfortunately isn't played live very often. God knows why it's incredible !
