Sustaining job while unmedicated

Hi everyone, I’m currently going through the process of being assessed for ADHD although in the meantime am struggling to keep up with the demands of my role. I work in a scientific setting where it partly involves straddling lots of projects and keeping up to date with the latest research (reading papers, remembering what I’ve read, consolidating that into my long term memory and recalling it in meetings with colleagues). Increasingly I’m finding it difficult to keep up with everything - especially since I started working for a new manager - who has different expectations to my old manager. Although I’ve been a high achiever for most of my adult life - there’s a growing part of me that just wants to quit, rest and start afresh in a new career that doesn’t require me to work against my brain so often. I’m conflicted though as the pay is decent and I’ve worked hard for this job.

What would you do in my shoes?

I’ve already had a few conversations with my new manager around some of my challenges although it hasn’t lead to meaningful changes.
