A hilarious thought with a Monk's Deflect Attacks.
So my group will be going from the 2014 5th Edition to the new 2024 rules in the next campaign, and one of the players wants to be a Monk. So I compared their abilities between rule sets.
In the 2014 Monks Deflect Missiles description it uses words like "catch" and has a requirement of having a free hand if you want to throw the missile back at someone.
In 2024, there is no references to any sort of physical motion in the Deflect Attacks that the Monk needs to make, or any requirement that involves having a free hand or any kind of limb.
Meaning that a 2024 Monk could be completely restrained and still be deflecting attacks as long is it can use their reaction.
Which gives me the hilarious/absurd mental image of a bound Monk focusing so much that they are returning arrows to sender and reversing axe blows just by staring at them real hard.
The power of "nu-uh" in unrivalled
'Fuck you mean "nu-uh"!?'
Its kinda messed up that Jaune would have screwed over his sister and in-law even in the best case.
Now I know it's something the writers weren't thinking of/intending, but lets look at the likely or at least possible results and consequences for Saphron and Terra if Jaune's airships stealing plan had gone off without a hitch and Adam wasn't involved.
- The moment those two guards get back to the Argus base (assuming that RWBY and Co had already gotten away) they are going to let Cordo know that Weiss had hijacked the ship.
- "What the hell is going on here?" Cordo will likely think. "Better re-examine what had happened when Weiss got on-board."
- "Hang on" Cordo thinks. "There was that blonde woman with a baby that showed up when Weiss was leaving (not sure why we let them on the base, never even seen them before). And that baby started crying very loudly when my men where going to touch Weiss bags, distracting them. At the very least I should look into this woman to see what is up with her"
- "Well this is suspicious. Our communications went down at the same time Weiss hijacked the ship. That can't be a coincidence."
- "Hold up! This Saphron woman we looked at is married to Terra! One of our communication technicians! They must have been in cohoots with Weiss! Straight to jail for questioning for these two!"
Once again, yeah, definitely not something Jaune or the writers planned for or intended. But think about it in-universe makes it very screwed up for Jaune to get them involved with something this illegal.
And also weird that both Saphron and Terra were both willing to go along with the plan knowing this when they have a kid to raise.
Does this ever come up again?
I don't know if we have ever seen a device like the Iron Fist before, but its gnarly. Much different from the gravFists we have seen that throw out concussive blasts.
The Iron Fist seems like it would trivialize combat. Especially since a lot of the important fights in this series come down to 1v1's.
Lysander refers to the Iron Fist like a known quantity in Gold Law. But unless it is absurdly expensive to produce, it seems odd that it hasn't seen use in the wars.
