Finally understood why people recommend dashcams so much

Back in the day, I got into a minor accident; at that time, I had no proof, so I had to bear the cost. I searched Reddit about insurance, and it gave me a new perspective on what to do and how to do it. Since car insurance is mandatory, it’s also important to have proof that’ll help you get that amount, and you'll save tons of money.

Fast forward to a month ago, I finally picked up a dashcam, mainly for peace of mind, just in case anything happened, I’d have proof.

Exactly that happened one evening. I went through a green light at a busy intersection and got hit from the side. When we pulled over, the other driver immediately claimed I ran the red light. Confidently too, like they’d done it before.

There were no independent witnesses, so insurance defaulted to a 50/50 split. I knew what I saw, but it was just my word against theirs, and anyone who’s been through that knows how frustrating it is.

Then I pulled the footage.

That footage was on my side; the entire event was captured on the camera. I submitted the clip, and the whole shared fault conversation ended right away. It saved me.

If you’ve been putting it off, waiting for the right moment, just get one. It’s one of the few things that actually helps you win against the kind of people who will lie straight to your face and hope you’ve got nothing to prove otherwise.

My elder sister has a graduation ceremony and my dad is gifting her car.... now I'm very confused what should I gift her? I've less budget right now I'm jobless for past 6 months so I'm thinking to gift her table decor things for her office setup. (some cute small lamp, sticky notes, marker set etc) but I got an other idea as dad is gifting her car so I am thinking of getting her something related to car. I had tool kit and powerbank in my mind but they looked too simple. So maybe a dashcam would make sense? Because dad is always concerned about her safety and all. But is it a good gift? Like something you would give your sister especially if she got a new job?
