I got my first ticket a week ago and another today

Both were on highways and I don't know if my insurance will increase from speeding tickets. There was a shred of hope with my first ticket but after my second one I had a panic attack and I felt like my life was ending (because its a lot of money) annd still do. Will my insurance increase? If so. How screwed am I? My family tried telling me its okay but it feels really expensive and like the end of the world. Does anybody else relate to this?

Insurance lowball offer after a rear end and I can't tell if I'm being unreasonable

Got stopped at a light a couple weeks ago and the guy behind me just didn't. He admitted it at the scene and the police report backs me up, but his insurer has now started floating the idea that I "stopped short" and might be partly on the hook, which is the first I've heard of that. So liability looked clean and now they're poking at it. The other problem is they called me almost immediately with an offer that barely covers my urgent care visit and the first physical therapy appointment, and the adjuster was weirdly nice about how they "want to get this resolved quickly for me." Felt less like they were helping me and more like they wanted my signature before I knew what my back was going to do.

I'm still in PT and my doctor hasn't cleared me yet, so I have no idea what the total even is. Something about being pushed to settle while I'm still treating feels off, but I also don't want to be the person who turns a fender bender into a federal case over nothing. Is a fast first offer normal, or is it a sign they think I'll just take it? And if I push back, do I do that myself or is that the point where you stop dealing with them directly. genuinely not sure what reasonable looks like here.

Is a $3,779 property damage reasonable for this accident?

I accidentally hit a parked truck while backing up. He had a few shallow scratches in his plastic bumper. I had a few paint scratches on my vehicle, which I don't care about because mine is old. No dents. I just find out my insurance had to pay out $3,779 to him in damages, and now it's more difficult for me to find affordable insurance rates because of the high cost of the payout. Is this crazy or reasonable? Unfortunately I can't find the photo of the damage but I have attached here an image I found on google that's comparable.

Which of these SUVs would likely be cheapest to insure in Toronto, Ontario?

I’m trying to decide between these four vehicles, and insurance cost is one of the factors I’m considering.

My options are:
2026 Kia Sportage EX Premium HEV
2026 Toyota RAV4 XLE Premium
2026 Mazda CX-5 GT
2026 Volkswagen Tiguan Comfortline R-Line

A bit about me:
28M
Married
Located in Toronto, Ontario
Clean driving record
G License (Received last month)

I’m wondering how much choosing the right vehicle actually impacts insurance premiums. Is the difference between these models significant, or are we talking about only a small amount per month?
If you’ve insured any of these in Toronto, I’d love to hear:

  1. Which one was the cheapest or most expensive to insure?
  2. Which insurer generally provides better rates?
  3. Are there any of these that insurance companies tend to rate poorly due to theft rates, repair costs, or claims history?

Ultimately, I’m trying to understand whether choosing the right vehicle can make a meaningful difference in insurance costs and whether that should play a significant role in my purchase decision. Any insights or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

97 7.3 total loss accident insurance help needed!

Hey everyone!

I had an unfortunate accident in my 1997 Ford F-250 with a 7.3-liter diesel engine.
Insurance has declared it a total loss. I had full coverage on it. They assessed its value at $9,000 before the accident, but this is a very clean and relatively low-mileage truck! The market value for similar trucks I've been researching is between $20,000 and $30,000. It's impossible for me to replace my truck with just $9,000. Does anyone have any recommendations for this situation? I didn't imagine insurance would give me anywhere near what my truck's value was but I didn't expect it to be this low.

This truck has been my baby and reliable daily for meany years and is essential for my work with rescue and Mustang horses!

Thank you all in advance for the help!!!

Preparing For A Lowball

Now that the insurance has agreed that my claim falls under uninsured motorist, they have already made remarks that indicate they are going to try to lowball me on the value of my vehicle. I had liability with uninsured motorist. Car is a 2010 Prius with 178,000 miles. I don't need any smart remarks. I need help. Please tell me how to navigate if they try to do a lowball offer. I NEED a vehicle that is mechanically sound as I have NO CREDIT and owned this one outright. I cannot go into car payments. I went to cars dot com and comparable vehicles are freakin' 6-8K!

They are also wanting to take my vehicle to a salvage company and have me sign a release that allows them to tow it there. I feel like that is questionable. It has been sitting at the tow yard that the state trooper had it sent to since the accident which occurred 13 days ago and suddenly it is their emergency to get it moved QUICKLY so they don't have to pay anymore storage fees on it. But it wasn't important when I called them on day 1 and explained this to them and asked them to go get it.

I honestly just want them to fix my car but the air bags deployed and the headlight, hood, and something is leaking. It is going to be a total loss. Do I just need to get a lawyer or what?

How do I negotiate a lowball ~$1,400 diminished value offer up?

Other driver's insurance (USAA) accepted 100% liability, repairs are complete. Now in the diminished value negotiation stage with a third-party vendor the insurance company contracted to evaluate DV (not the insurance adjuster directly).

Their rep called and quoted ~$1,400, pressured me to accept immediately over the phone, and implied she'd submit it for payment regardless of whether I agreed. I declined and asked for time to review.

I've submitted my own market comparables and other valuations showing the vehicle's pre-accident value, and formally requested the formula/comparables they used to arrive at $1,400 — in writing.

My main question: how do I actually negotiate this number up effectively?

• What arguments or documentation carry the most weight when pushing back on a DV evaluator's number?

• Should I counter with a specific number, or ask them to justify theirs first?

• Is there a typical range insurers actually pay out once you push back, or is the first offer usually close to final?

• Any tactics that worked for you in actually moving the number significantly?

Previously settled a DV claim with a different insurer (unrelated accident) via email negotiation and ended up well above their first offer. Trying to replicate that success here and would appreciate any concrete strategies.

Is a contingency-fee car accident lawyer actually worth it in CA?

So I got rear-ended on the 405 about 3 months ago, nothing super dramatic but I ended up with a herniated disc and missed a bunch of shifts (I’m a server, so no work = no money). At a BBQ last weekend my cousin was like “dude, don’t just take whatever the insurance throws at you, get a lawyer,” which kinda kicked this whole thing off in my head.

Right now the at-fault driver’s insurance is offering to cover my ER bill and a bit extra, but it feels low compared to what I’ve lost in tips and now ongoing PT. I’ve started googling local car accident lawyers in California, saw a bunch of firms that do free consultations and “no fee unless we win,” and one of the sites I clicked was something like https://brafflawfirm.com while I was half-asleep last night.

I might be looking at this the wrong way, but is it actually better to get a lawyer on contingency, or do they just eat up whatever extra I’d get over the insurance offer? Anyone here in CA gone this route and felt it was worth it? How much of a pain is the process day-to-day?

Rear End Damage

Need some advice.

My 2026 Toyota bZ XLE FWD (only about 3 weeks old) was rear-ended. Toyota inspected it and said the battery appears fine, but some rear sensors are damaged.

My biggest concern is long-term reliability and any hidden damage from a rear-end collision on an EV even after repair. Would you trust it after proper repairs?

How much auto body will charge for repair? Tail gate, back bumper and sensor are already damaged, side panels might also need replacement. Not sure about under the hood. Parts seems to be back order for 2-3 months.

TIL trucks are actually cheaper to insure than cars

Even working in insurance I always assumed trucks would cost more to cover. Bigger price tag, bigger repairs, bigger vehicle. Turns out I was wrong. Based on quote data I just saw from this month, the average pickup runs $263/month for full coverage vs $317 for a car. About 17% less. On state minimum the gap is $132 vs $160.

When you look at the data it actually makes sense. Heavier vehicles tend to absorb crashes better for the people inside them, which factors into how risk gets priced. There's obviously more to it than just size but that's a big part of why the numbers land where they do.

Made me curious, has anyone here factored in insurance costs when deciding between buying a truck or a car?

Significant Cosmetic Damage - What to do?

So, my car was damaged by overspray. The paint, chrome, rims, glass, wheels, you name it - it was coated. It was very clean before this with only 20k miles on it despite being about 5 years old since I worked remotely for a while. The body was very clean with only a couple of minor places on it. The person who did it DGAF. Employer is livid and is going after them since multiple other vehicles were involved. There is $15,000 in replacement part costs alone not including labor or if they had to repaint something. The car has been detailed, but the nooks and crannies where parts meet, etc. is still spotted. He also didn't touch the trim or chrome. The detailer even gouged my paint and left buffing marks!! He came with great recommendations as well. I don't care for the, "Well that part may be replaced anyway, it doesn't matter" line. If you're good, that shouldn't happen.

My car is worth $22-$25k still being a Touring edition. What do I do if their insurance says it is totaled? Can it be if it is just cosmetic damage? I'm afraid of what if there is clear coat damage, future trade in value, etc. My insurance tells me if it is totaled I can still get comprehensive coverage and even buy it back if I'm given that option. The person I talked to isn't in claims though so couldn't explain that to me.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. This is in the USA.

How can I dispute this?

Got into an accident about 2 weeks ago and the other person was at fault. Their insurance (national general) finally contacted to me for the settlement and the lady said considering my car was a salvage title car, they are giving me less. My car was never a salvage title car and has a clean CARFAX and a clean NC title. Said on her end and reporting service named CCCone the car was listed as a branded title in 2022. The 2022 accident was a minor accident in NC that involved a cracked windshield and scratched hood and was not deemed totaled whatsoever. She is saying that they can only base it off their report and cannot give me the value of it without that branded title.

How can I dispute this? I was told to call my insurance (progressive) and have them try to back me up but they put me in a transfer loop for 30 mins. This is changing the cars settlement value by about 10k~

Was going to call their insurance to try and prove it was never branded title. Thanks ahead.

Car insurance to keep Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles from tracking coverages

Figured I'd ask here since there's going to be a lot of knowledge flying around on this sub about insurance nuances that I neither have the time nor inclination to pursue.

Recently got a notice from FLHSMV here in Florida about my insurance lapsing and that they want to potentially suspend my license and vehicle registration. I find it unsettling that this government agency is tracking that when they don't even know the situation and issuing a penalty that extreme. The vehicle isn't on the road, it's being upgraded and will be off the road for at least the next 6 months while I build out the interior and exterior by hand. Are there insurance companies that aren't tracked by heavy-handed DMVs? Or should I just go to them and plead my case that the vehicle is not operating on public roads for the foreseeable future?

Need advice - No follow up from other party’s insurance

Hello,

I’m writing about recommended next steps for a not at fault car accident.

Context / Timeline
5/4/2026 - A man crashed into my vehicle from behind while I was stopped at a red light. We both pulled over and exchanged insurance information. A police report was also filed.

5/8/2026 - After filing a claim with his insurance, CMGA insurance, I received a formal email acknowledging my claim.

5/13/2026 - All required documents (photos of damage, license plate, VIN, Police report PDF, etc) were emailed.

6/22/2026 (date of this post): I have yet to receive concrete next steps. It’s been 33 business days.

I received two calls from CMGA over the past 4 weeks. One was an acknowledgement and the other was a confirmation that an assessor would reach out within 48 hours. I have literally sent over 8 follow up emails and have called and left over 10 voicemails and have not received a damn response yet. This has been incredibly frustrating and I want to take legal action.

Any recommendations for next steps? I live in Texas (Austin area) for reference.

Insurance or pay out of pocket?

I dented my car door, here’s the damage. The black lining on the bottom is loose and there are the dents in the yellow accent and the smaller ones within the contour of the door.

Insurance or pay out of pocket?

I’ve had a good driving record in the last 5 years I’ve been driving, the car is brand new (got it in September), and I JUST got it repaired after someone else hit my car while it was parked. I’ve been told no matter what it’s gonna be a hard repair to do cause of the placement. Calliber collision quoted me 5k which made me sick. I’m gonna get estimates from more places but would appreciate more insight.

Edit: figured I’d mention that my deductible is $1000

Projected miles driven increase for new car purchase

I have an auto insurance policy with 2 drivers and 2 cars covered, with 22,000 projected miles driven per year total. I bought a new car. When the new car was added to my policy, it has 10,500 projected miles driven, and the other two cars don't change, giving me 32,500 projected miles driven per year. I told my broker that we aren't going to be driving more, we're just going to be distributing the miles between three cars instead of 2. I expected to provide a planned miles driven per year schedule to my insurance company and have them modify my rates at least using that as an input. But my broker says underwriting needs to see service records and mileage readings to change projected miles driven.

I feel like I'm not approaching this the right way somehow. Is it standard issue to inflate total projected miles like this when a new car is added to a policy? Is there some better way I can explain this to my broker?

FWIW I can accept my rates going up with the new car, but I'd like the rates to be based on reasonable expectation of mileage, not some fantasy world where the same number of drivers is suddenly driving 50% more miles than before.

Moving from CA to NV, but vehicle is owned by parents in Ca

As the title says, I’m potentially moving to NV from CA. My parents own my truck and are staying in California. Would I have to get my truck registered in Nevada if I’m not the owner?

Thank you
