Very slow leak in gas stove (Vic)
Our ancient (nearly 70 years old) stove has a very slow leak on one of the knobs. So slow you can barely smell it at the jet, and can't smell it in the room unless the house is shut up for several days.
Plumber told us he can't disconnect it because all the gas pipes are “the old type”. He said if he does any work on it, he has to replace all the pipes. House will be demolished at the end of the year, so don't want to do that.
So the choice is either all new pipes, or turn it all off at the meter. Is this correct? Not allowed to disconnect a stove without replacing the gas pipes first? I know electricians won't do work on houses with old wiring. Is this the same?
Edit: I’ve added photos of the stove and the meter. To clarify, gas is leaking out of one burner even when it’s turned off. The ideal solution would be if we could disable that burner. Then we could still use the other three.
