Very slow leak in gas stove (Vic)

Our ancient (nearly 70 years old) stove has a very slow leak on one of the knobs. So slow you can barely smell it at the jet, and can't smell it in the room unless the house is shut up for several days.

Plumber told us he can't disconnect it because all the gas pipes are “the old type”. He said if he does any work on it, he has to replace all the pipes. House will be demolished at the end of the year, so don't want to do that.

So the choice is either all new pipes, or turn it all off at the meter. Is this correct? Not allowed to disconnect a stove without replacing the gas pipes first? I know electricians won't do work on houses with old wiring. Is this the same?

Edit: I’ve added photos of the stove and the meter. To clarify, gas is leaking out of one burner even when it’s turned off. The ideal solution would be if we could disable that burner. Then we could still use the other three.

Bits falling off new escalator at Southern Cross

The brush thing is slipping out of its track on the new platform 13/14 escalator. Is there some way to let someone know before someone trips on it?

Inclement weather delays?

I noticed last night this MetroNotify notification that had popped up at 7:42am about Werribee trains delayed because of inclement weather. Was there inclement weather yesterday? It seemed like a nice day. Do they mean fog?

What's this thing?

I hope this question is allowed here. Can anyone tell me what this thing is? I asked over in r/whatisthisthing, and no one was sure. Some thought it was a pizza spatula, someone thought it might be for sifting coals in a wood oven, which is why I'm asking here. I'm hoping one of you has seen one before.

The plate part of it is about 17cm x 26cm. It was found among stuff from the early 1900s, but I don't know if that's how old it is. It looks like it was once painted green all over.

I need a moving truck for a day to move stuff 200km, and Budget's online quote is $89 compared to a removalist's quote of about $700.

Is there a catch to this? Are there extras to pay? Round trip will be close to 500km, I'm guessing I might have to pay $200-$300 for fuel. Are there other costs?

Found among inherited belongings that included stuff from up to 100 years old. Might not be very old, or might be ancient.

Looks kind of like a giant spatula/turner. If it is, what are the upturned bits on the sides for?

Edit: many have suggested a pizza peel/spatula. Are those normally bendy? This is way too thick to bend.

It also has traces of green paint on the underside, towards the handle. Unfortunately, I'm not at the house to take more photos.

I'm wondering if anyone can identify the location of this old photo, taken of a sports team in the 1920s. Looks a bit like photos I've found on line of the quadrangle, but I can't find close up photos from this angle to confirm it.

I'm in Melbourne, so can't come for a look. Can anyone tell me if I'm right? Is that leadlight window/door in the background still there?
