Scottish Highlands

Scottish Highlands

Seen this near Lairg in the Scottish Highlands.

Initially thought it was a Red Kite but looking at the ends of the wings and tail, now thinking it’s more likely to be a Harris Hawk. It was huge. Any experts able to confirm which please (or something else entirely!) I also thought buzzard but feels a bit big for that!

We have been on the hunt for a Golden Eagle frequently sighted round here but fairly confident it’s not that. Thanks!

Sauna & Pool - wellbeing focussed not fitness focussed

Just found out Hathersage Pool’s Sauna is closed until October. Does anyone have any recommendations for alternatives?

I know about the new place in town and R1SE, but I’m looking for more of a cosy, relaxing vibe than a “HOT! COLD! HOT! COLD! PUSH THROUGH THE PAIN!” experience.

My normal routine is basically: sauna, a gentle paddle into cold water up to my waist, scamper back out, repeat. Or sauna, a few leisurely lengths in a nice pool, back to the sauna.

So, accepting that my complete refusal to do an actual ice bath, and that im looking for something a little less sport-centred like Graves or Ponds Forge, probably rules out half the options, I don’t suppose anyone can anyone recommend somewhere Hathersage-esque where you can properly relax for an hour?

Thanks in advance.

A man has died at a wall in Luxembourg after not clipping in correctly.

Did initially post an article about it but the post was deleted saying it was from a black listed source. So you’ll have to go and find it for yourselves I’m afraid. Basically he clipped into his gear loop which then ripped as he came off the wall.

As ridiculous as this sounds, I remember a few months ago on here there was a woman who posted several climbing videos of herself on here, where she arrogantly clipped in without checking it was done correctly. Lots of ladies on here, across several videos, pleaded with her to do this extra check and she never took heed and continued to post videos of herself doing the same, strutting towards the auto belay without a second glance, time and time again. As soon as I saw this article it reminded me of her and I wanted to reach out once again.

I can’t actually find any of her posts so I’m not sure if she’s still here but I hope that if she does see this and she’s still not doing her checks, this might make her realise how important it is!

Now deleted Black Diamond Post - Honnold in Fontainebleau

Black Diamond uploaded a post last night ofAlex Honnold climbing on went sandstone in Font. The comments, understandably, didn’t go their way and it’s now been deleted.

The photo was looking down on Honnold from the top of the rock, which is clearly wet and still seeping, and him making a huge move to the top hold which he’d clearly put loads of chalk on in a bid to dry it.

Very disheartening that the rules of not climbing rock when it’s wet - ESPECIALLY sandstone, and especially in Fontainebleau, don’t seem to apply for him - especially when he’s always the first one to shout up about looking after nature and saving the planet. Very poor show from Alex.

Did anyone else see it before BD deleted?
