Feeling lonely and depressed in Sheffield — how do you cope?

I’ve been living in Sheffield for a while, but I don’t really have any friends or much of a social circle here. I’m actually a very social person, so being alone so much has started to get to me.
Lately I’ve been feeling really lonely, low and anxious, and honestly just fed up with feeling this way. I miss having people around, going out, having random conversations and just feeling connected to others.
For those of you who have been through something similar, what do you do when you feel depressed, anxious or lonely? How did you make friends or build a social life in Sheffield?
I’d really appreciate any advice, experiences or suggestions for things I could try. ❤️

Anyone else a bit nippy?

Apparently it's 18⁰C outside and my indoor thermometer is showing 21.5⁰C.

Then why am I seriously considering getting the heated throw out??

What are the best sandwich shops in Sheffield city centre?

I am looking for all the old school cafes and sandwich shops in Sheffield. My favourite is Turners Bakers in The Moor Market (and Nether Edge). I love that they have fresh bread, crisp salad, and quality ham. But I just got thinking, are there any I'm missing?

I've been to Wellies but it didn't quite hit the spot. Obviously love more expensive international offerings such as Cafe Tucci, but I'm looking for a specific fresh northern sandwich emporium style bap, butty, barm, breadcake etc (pick your preferred word).

Any recommendations?

Best car boots

Hi all, hoping to go to a car boot soon and wanted your recommendations of the best one in the Sheffield (and surrounding) area. It’s been years since I’ve been to one so wanted some up to date experiences. Thank you!

A safe house in Walkley: writing Rose's House back into Sheffield's queer history

Naomi Abel-Hirsch is the director of Rose's House, a short documentary that premiered at Sheffield DocFest in June. Here, she tells the story of a forgotten corner of the city's queer past.

Sheffield's Robin Hood Connection

I've heard that Robin Hood has some connection to Sheffield and more specifically Loxley.

Are there any sights to see? Maybe a plaque or a tour about it? I would like to explore it if there is something up there.

Thanks for the answers in advance chaps and chapettes!

Any leads on part time work?

Hi all! I have just moved to Sheffield to pursue a full time Masters, and I am looking for part time work to supplement my study. I have plenty of hospitality experience and customer service skills, so I would be happy to do kitchen/bar/front of house/retail work.

Does anybody have any leads or could perhaps point me in a direction besides the usual job hunting websites? It has taken months for me previously and ideally I’d like to find something sooner. Thanks so much.

Heeley Pool and Gym

I’m considering a swim and gym membership. Have any of you got any experience of using the facilities here? Does the sauna still work? Are there many open swimming sessions?

Visiting Chesterfield for 2 Nights in September — What Should I Do?

Hi everyone!
I’m planning a trip to Chesterfield in September and I’ll be staying for two nights, It’ll be my first time visiting, so I’d really appreciate recommendations from anyone who lives in Chesterfield or knows the area well.
What would you recommend I do during my two-night stay?
I’m particularly interested in:
Places I shouldn’t miss
Good restaurants/cafés and local food
Nice pubs or places to have a drink
Interesting things to see or do in the evening
Parks, viewpoints, walks or nice areas to explore
Any hidden gems that tourists might not know about
Places worth visiting around Chesterfield if I have some extra time
I’ll be coming from Spain, so I’d love to experience the area like a local rather than just doing the standard tourist stuff.
If you had only two nights in Chester, how would you spend them?
Thanks in advance! 🙂

Hendo's crisps

How did I get to this great age without ever tasting Hendo's crisps?

Truly a god-tier snack !

Picked up a pack at random from Morrisons last night and was blown away. Not the cheapest (£2.65 for 150g) but makes a delicious treat 😍

Scrotes of Hillsborough

Hello,

Anybody else had bother up near Hillsborough, on the main road by gangster wannabe bicycle scrotes?

Just seen 3 of them spit on a man, and try and nick my cap, absolute twats. On the main road leading from Kelham into Hillsborough.

This isn’t the first time I’ve encountered them and I’ve read about the stone throwing.

Why does the police not do anything considering there would be plenty of complaints, I assume.

Sounds harsh, but these kids need lamping, so they understand to leave people alone. Of course you’d probably get nicked trying to do so, so it’s a sad world. I’d happily lamp them if there wasn’t the risk of getting stabbed by these scrotes.

Rant over.

Is it a southern UK thing ? Why doesn't sheffield have any??

The Giant International Wooden Block Stacking World Championship 2026

Hello all,

I/We are running the second Giant International Wooden Block Stacking World Championship on 19th September at CADS on Arley Street. It is a sort of absurdist comedy night based around an actual giant jenga competition.

We have a field of 8 "stacktheletes" including sheffield based comedians, clowns, and drag artists competing for the world champion title.

All proceeds from the night are going to the Sheffield Electrolysis Project.

I have been making some promotional videos which may or may not making things clearer but they can be found on our instagram page here: https://www.instagram.com/tgiwbswc/

thanks for your time and i would be happy to try and answer any questions you may have.

Best chips in Sheffield?

My friend wants a bowl of Sheffield's best chips for their birthday party.

Where do you all suggest?

To add:

- must be veggie (no lard cooking please)

- preferably city centre

- a sit down place, not a takeout

Can anyone recommend a local company that works on these kinds of sun defense?

Not really sure what we want so ideally I’d love someone who has experience with awnings and external roller shade. As always personal recommendations are the best ones!
