Why are people running around south sheff with maps today?

Also little orange numbered bags around trees n stuff. Saw a guy be very rude and yell at / shove past a lady on frog walk so assuming it must be pretty serious lol.

Best way to create decent looking chain mail on a budget?

I need to create 5 chainmail pieces but I’ve never done anything like this before. If anyone has any tips on reasonably priced materials, tutorials on how to assemble, where to find patterns, or even just where to start I’d greatly appreciate it. Doesn’t need to be metal necessarily but must be waterproof. Cheers :)

Does anywhere have New Rock boots for sale?

I’m looking at getting a pair but as they are quite expensive I’d prefer to try them on before making such a big purchase. Cheers!

So it’s trans history week and I just wanted to discuss something I’ve been thinking about a lot recently.

I’ve been seeing a lot of discussions recently surrounding trans men not belonging in trans spaces and trans men needing to stop co-opting movements lead by trans women because our struggles are different and we need our own movements. I don’t think there is anything wrong with trans women or trans men having their own spaces, but I just wanted open discussion around some of the nuance surrounding this conversation.

The main form of discrimination trans men face is erasure, which doesn’t sound so bad when compared to violence statistics against trans women right?

Because trans men “don’t exist”, violence against trans men is often categorized as violence against women or violence against trans women, because when someone says trans, everyone just assumes women (& this is reflected in any laws targeting trans people, when applied to trans men it often won’t have the desired affect). So we are a part of the violence against women statistics, just invisible.

Trans men / trans mascs face extremely high levels of sexual violence and suicide rates, it’s just not reported as often, and if it is, it’s often mis-categorized as violence against women.

Also, while it’s a little uncomfortable to say that trans men are impacted by misogyny, they are. Transphobes don’t believe us, so if we are largely perceived as being women by our oppressors, it explains the long standing patterns of us being silenced, not believed, erased, or having our medical needs neglected.

So then I have to ask, why are so many trans spaces and movements so quick to proudly exclude trans men? Why has our continued erasure become so normal to the point that people in our own community don’t want to hear our voices?

I’m not trying to come across as feeling entitled to woman’s spaces, I think it’s absolutely fine for trans women to have their own spaces. I’m also not trying to compare the amount of violence or discrimination we face with what trans women face.

What I’m more concerned about is how trans men, more often than not, don’t feel welcomed in trans spaces that are meant to be for everyone. And I don’t really get the conscious effort to exclude us from long standing trans rights movements, when we actively don’t have any of our own due to our erasure. Like isn’t trans men advocating for trans women’s rights a good thing? I know our issues aren’t the same but I think there is more overlap than a lot of people would like to admit, and I don’t get the benefit of excluding trans men.

I suppose more than anything I’m feeling frustrated at how invisible we are, not only to the cisgender public, but also in spaces that are specific to trans people.

I really want to start something advocating for visibility and safety for trans men but it’s hard to start a movement off of “just trust me bro”, especially when so many of us don’t feel welcome in greater trans spaces so there is no opportunity for us to safely connect and organize without outing ourselves online.

Would love to know how others are feeling about this, I always appreciate seeing how this community feels since this is genuinely the only space I have to connect with other trans men. Above all keep it respectful in the comments.

I personally have never described myself this way. I didn’t start medically transitioning until I was abt 22 so calling myself a boy in any regard just didn’t feel right to me.

In my experience the only time I’ve been called a Tboy is by other people in the queer community that don’t really know me (typically not other trans men). & the context always feels like it’s being used in a degrading way, almost like a backhanded insult intended to make me feel small.

When I first started hearing this term I didn’t really think anything of it, didn’t bother me at all, figured if it’s a label that made people more comfortable then what’s the harm?

But now it’s starting to feel like the terms is being forced on me in a way I’m not exactly comfortable with. I identify with being a trans man, getting called a Tboy now just feel like I’m being infantilized in queer spaces and it’s really starting to irritate me.

This ofc is only my own experience so I’d love to see how everyone else is feeling. Also if anyone knows the origins of this term I’d be curious to know where it comes from.
