If even Meta employees are getting laid off… are any jobs actually “stable” anymore?

Just read the news about Meta cutting 8,000 jobs.

Honestly it kind of messed with my brain a bit because growing up, companies like Meta/Google were seen as the “made it already” type of jobs. High pay, prestige, smart people, stable future, amazing office, all that.

But now even people in tech, engineering, product teams, AI teams etc are getting cut.

And what scares me more is some of these employees were there for YEARS. Some even upskilled themselves in AI… only to get replaced during the AI restructuring itself.

Makes me wonder what “job security” even means anymore

Feels like nowadays:

  • Companies want loyalty but can cut people overnight
  • Everyone is constantly upskilling out of fear
  • Even high performers don’t feel safe anymore
  • Fresh grads can’t get jobs
  • Mid-career workers are panicking
  • AI is moving faster than people can adapt

Not trying to doompost but genuinely curious:
Do we still believe in staying loyal to one company long-term? Or is the mindset now just “earn as much as possible before your turn comes”?

Would really like to hear thoughts especially from people in tech/corporate right now.

BIGGEST SCAM: “Study hard and you’ll have a stable job”

Maybe this is a depressing take but I genuinely feel like our generation was sold a dream that doesn’t exist anymore.

Study hard. Get a degree. Work hard. Stay loyal. Eventually life becomes stable.

But now I’m seeing degree holders earning RM2.5k in KL while rent, food, Grab, insurance, and literally existing keeps getting more expensive every year.

And the craziest part?
You can do EVERYTHING right and still get ghosted by companies for months.

I know people with years of experience applying to hundreds of jobs and still hearing nothing back. Then companies complain “young people don’t want to work anymore.”

Some of my friends are burned out in corporate.
Some gave up and started doing Grab/Foodpanda.
Some migrated to Singapore/Australia.
Some are pretending everything is okay on LinkedIn while silently panicking about money.

I even know people with “good jobs” who still can’t imagine buying a house or starting a family anymore.

At this point I honestly understand why so many Malaysians want to leave.

Feels like we’re surviving instead of actually living.

Curious if anyone else feels this way lately or maybe I’m just too deep in my own quarter-life crisis 😅

Is RM3.6K retail job in KL normal??

ngl retail jobs with commission + bonuses are getting harder to find lately

Saw this Retail Sales Associate opening in KL:

Salary: RM2.6K–3.6K

Benefits: Commission + performance bonus

Bonus: Employee rewards included

Looks pretty decent if you’re okay with customer-facing work and a fast-paced environment. Is this job worth it?

What do y’all think about retail jobs nowadays?

Been seeing more retail roles pop up lately and honestly wondering what the “normal” salary range is now for retail assistants in Singapore 🤔

Came across a hiring post offering both full-time and part-time retail sales assistant roles. Full-time salary was around $2.4K for entry-level, which seems better than some retail jobs I’ve seen before.

They also mentioned benefits like:

  • Employee discounts
  • Incentives
  • AWS
  • Health & dental insurance
  • Employee assistance programmes

Looks like they’re okay with less than 1 year experience too as long as you’re customer-service oriented.

Curious what everyone thinks:
Is retail still worth getting into nowadays? Especially for people looking for stable work or flexible jobs.

For anyone interested, here’s the role I saw:
