Any recommendations for Computer Science internships in Kuching? (Sept start, info inside)

Hey guys,
Final-year Computer Science degree student here looking for an internship placement in Kuching starting this September.
I’m looking for something a bit specific, I really lean towards hardware, embedded systems, networking, and hands-on coding/AI. Not a big fan of web development or frontend stuff, so I'm trying to find places where software meets actual hardware.
I’ve already shot my shot at these places:
• Sacofa
• Xfab
• Sarawak Semiconductor (rejected)
• Sarawak AI Centre
• RA Robotics and Automation (Side note: anyone have an active phone number for HR here? Only managed to reach them via sales team email ).
Looking for some help with:

  1. Other Company Recommendations: Are there any tech, automation, or engineering firms in Kuching I might have missed that do this kind of work?
  2. Tips : If you’ve interned or worked at Xfab, SMD, or Sacofa, what’s the vibe like? Any tips on how to stand out during the interview?

Appreciate any leads or advice you guys can drop. Thanks!

BIGGEST SCAM: “Study hard and you’ll have a stable job”

Maybe this is a depressing take but I genuinely feel like our generation was sold a dream that doesn’t exist anymore.

Study hard. Get a degree. Work hard. Stay loyal. Eventually life becomes stable.

But now I’m seeing degree holders earning RM2.5k in KL while rent, food, Grab, insurance, and literally existing keeps getting more expensive every year.

And the craziest part?
You can do EVERYTHING right and still get ghosted by companies for months.

I know people with years of experience applying to hundreds of jobs and still hearing nothing back. Then companies complain “young people don’t want to work anymore.”

Some of my friends are burned out in corporate.
Some gave up and started doing Grab/Foodpanda.
Some migrated to Singapore/Australia.
Some are pretending everything is okay on LinkedIn while silently panicking about money.

I even know people with “good jobs” who still can’t imagine buying a house or starting a family anymore.

At this point I honestly understand why so many Malaysians want to leave.

Feels like we’re surviving instead of actually living.

Curious if anyone else feels this way lately or maybe I’m just too deep in my own quarter-life crisis 😅

Should i Resign now or Later?

Hi all, need some advice.

I recently got an offer and had already done signed it and HR confirmed received it. Problem is HR say the background check is ongoing and could take up to 1 month or more and they insisted i can start my resignation process in my current month to start serving my 2 months notice periods.

In this case, should i resign first or wait till an all clear? Discussed with HR and they insisted i do it quick as the background check never failed so far and to meet my commencement date which is 2 months from May 2026.

2 years unemployement as a software engineer

I have been unemployed for 2 years now and I'm at a point where I do not know what to do anymore.

I had multiple interviews, made it to several stages and then, nothing. Several recruiters and HR have approached me, but they do not think that I am a viable candidate as I have a 2 years gap in my resume.

I used my time as a web dev freelancer and also did some personal projects using different tech stacks. But these don't seem to count towards my experience.

There are multiple occasions where I feel like ending it all, but I have a wife and a 9 months old baby. I feel like i'm a failure as a husband and a father. My savings are nearing its limits and i'm barely scraping doing grab car.

Any advice on how I could pull myself back up?

Unemployment rate ⬇️ Malaysia Economy ⬆️ My wallet 💥

According to the latest Malaysia economic monitor report, unemployment lowest since 2014. Economic up 4%, jobs employed below their qualification. But our wallet getting thinner than ever.
Are we getting more materialistic or too much burden sucking our wallet?

How should I decide on my career path?

I am currently in a dilemma: whether to continue in my current black-hat SEO job in a small agency or join a big, established company in a different digital marketing role. I am currently not satisfied working at a small agency as a junior black-hat SEO. I know black hat, especially in igaming, can earn a lot once you've reached a certain level. However, my toxic agency wants us to outperform by overworking and OT, while I have no OT pay, with a pay of less than RM4k (which is not aligned with labor law in my country). Recently, they invited a consultant, whom they named "SEO king" behind the scenes, because he currently successfully ranks 918kiss and mega888 (as I heard). Because this so-called consultant has a full-time job, and because he is so great, the manager wants to accommodate his time fully for the consultant to access us, seeing how we can improve, and possibly train us. And this consultant will only join us as a partner at the end of the year.

So how do we accommodate his time? We have to work/meet at night for a certain period of time (unfixed) weekly, and then we may need to work during public holidays. Previously, not long ago, I by chance made myself sound like I know very well about labor rights, and I am able to talk about it transparently. I believe it is because of this that they remembered to mention allowing us to leave work earlier if we have to work at night on the day. And if we are working on a public holiday, we will get replacement leave on another day. (Last time they did not do this, and the leader asked me to get training from him after working hours, such a big change huh). I tried really hard to protect my rights and to block myself from their empty promises, and sometimes I get tired and drained from doing this.

I know changing jobs now is a good time, as many job vacancies are open these days. But I can't seem to find another good agency that offers the same position. Not to mention, I wonder if the igaming industry is always like my current agency culture, or even for the whole digital marketing industry. So I thought finding some big established companies might reduce the circumstances that happened in my current agency. I have no idea, and I need some suggestions and real insights. At the same time, I know changing jobs towards the white industry, and then a different role means lower salary pay for now and even bigger differences in the future. I suffer now, but I am afraid to get into the same scenarios even if I've changed roles and companies. Someone please give your genuine advices, would really appreciate it.

Back for 1 Month, Light Applications, here are the numbers:

Just making a small post to share some numbers for anyone wondering what's the current health of the Malaysian job market. For some context, I am an overseas graduate with 3 years of overseas work experience in various fields across different industries in sales. I graduated with a major in marketing from a decent university.

After coming back to Malaysia, I did some light amount of applications as I was pretty busy just moving back, setting back up shop, and actively working on my own side project. I am primarily looking at IT Sales or B2B Sales, though I would prefer to stay in the IT or technology sphere of things. Here are my stats.

I have made about:

  • 70 Job applications
  • Heard back from about 50% of them
  • Most of them were rejections; however, I was gunning for a salary range of 5-7k
  • I had gotten 5 callback interviews
  • Out of the 5, 1 did not disclose that Chinese was the primary language of communication and writing, which I declined instantly because my Chinese isn't that good
  • Another company felt.... off, which was a blessing in disguise when they said I didn't make it to the second round
  • Currently waiting for a reply from one company, for which I made it to the 3rd round. It's been about a week, but my recruiter told me that she has been chasing for a reply, and should hear back from them soon. This job does pay well above my salary range

Coming from Australia, I would have never had imagine to get this amount of engagement in such a short period of time. I went through a drought of no replies or interviews over a course of 4 months in Australia, applying all over the seniority chain. To anyone looking for a new job, good luck. Wish me luck for my interview as well.

I felt misled

Okay, so few months ago. I was reach out by a recruiter for a role that is a 12 months contract for a client (renewable)

I'm like okay, cool. I went for the interview and took it. Not long, I just felt odd and refocus on getting a permanent role. At the end of the day, a permanent is better than a contract. That's my take on this. People has different opinions on this.

Anyway, I went for interview and got the permanent offer which I was happy. I reach out to my client's manager to let her know I will be resigning and so on. Then, I email my resignation to the agency that I will be serving my one month notice.

The agency received my letter and then the boss reach out and saying, the client agree to renew my contract which I was so confused why he stated that. To my knowledge, it was a 12 month and it's currently May. It doesnt make sense for him to announce me about my contract getting renew.

Anyhow, agency boss was saying that he can increase my salary and so on. Later, the higher management from the client reach out to me to talk about my resignation and told me that the agency and client contract will be ending on mid of June.

That's when I found out, I wasn't given a full 12 months contract. It was a 6 months contract. I felt misled.

As i process this, the contract was with the agency not with the client. It was understandable and I went to check the chat history. It was not stated 6 months. Only 12 months. I was so pissed off.

Has anyone ever encountered this? Is this normal for you? The fact I wasn't informed it was a 6 month contract with the client is crazy. I was kept in the dark

Need advice

Hai. I recently started a new job this May, 3 weeks into the job, I didnt get offer letter yet nor do i sign anything. I tried asking the company for offer letter, they said just to wait.

So today, i received another job offer from another company that I went for interview last month. I am thinking to take this offer as the salary is 800myr higher, there are allowances, commission, parking, medical benefits. My current job offers none of those, that’s why Im thinking of switching.

My question is, do I need to tender an formal/official resignation if technically Im still on my first month probation and have yet to receive offer letter. Thank you.

Malaysia Cooperation Amateur Generation

I worked for 9 years in Malaysia, in many and differ cooperation, i can conclude there is 4 main stage cycle of the company. let see do you inside the category ?

Uphill
Company lead by marketing team, it is a good sign, marketing make orders and decide the company where to go. boss know how to keep quiet. sometimes doing nothing is the best for letting the company to grow. people need space to operate, no micromanage, less toxic. and marketing team hook project and generate income. they should decide the direction

Warning
Company lead by production team. it is risk due to u don't know what is the demand from market, u only focus on supply, it could end up u produce a lot but end up no one buy it. production team can save money for u in sometime, by optimization, it helps! yes! but they shouldn't lead the team. saving money doesn't mean u earning is good

Downhill
When HR leading the team, normally it is the boss pulling the string from behind, where the disaster started. no marketing, no production, everything is dictatorship. boss run company through HR, just to avoid taking responsible and taking blame. and starting to ask u to overtime working, and micromanagement. it also form a lot of politic, boss like to be unspecific on task. so if the outcome is success, he can claim, but if failed, he can blame. very cunning.

Resign
Boss decided to manage company himself, no certificate in marketing, production and HR, but he is rich and he think he is the only one can save the company, he run everything and micromanagement. if failed, he will lie or blame it on team. there is a lot people in this category in Malaysia. mostly the boss also inherit the wealthy from his parent or by luck. he has 0 experience but take 0 advise. u have to go, because in this scenario there is no growth, but only drama in a petty kingdom show. Mostly in his perspective, u are just a labor that he hired

What to do next

Hi everyone, I would really appreciate some advice and guidance regarding my current situation and future direction in life.
I’m a Malaysian citizen, but I moved to India when I was around 5 years old due to my father’s job. Growing up, I only came back to Malaysia during school holidays. I completed all my schooling and eventually my Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in India.
After graduating, I decided to return to Malaysia because I genuinely wanted to try building my life and future here. I’ve now been working for about 2.5 years in the same company as a Process / Product Engineer. I wouldn’t say I’m an expert yet, but I’m constantly learning, improving, and gaining experience step by step.
At the same time, I’m also trying to upskill myself because I’m interested in transitioning into design engineering in the future. Right now, I honestly don’t have much knowledge or experience in design, but I’m planning to start learning seriously on the side and slowly build my skills.
Another challenge for me is language. Since I grew up in India, I mainly used English, so I never became fluent in Malay. Recently, I’ve been putting effort into learning Malay because I really want to integrate better into Malaysian society and feel more connected here. Currently, I’d say my understanding is around 70%, but my speaking is probably around 40%. I’m still improving gradually.
I’m turning 25 soon, and honestly I’m at a stage in life where I feel a bit lost about what my next step should be. Deep in my heart, I truly want to settle down and build my future in Malaysia. At the moment, my salary is RM3200.
I would really appreciate honest advice from people who may have gone through similar experiences or who can guide me on:
Career direction and growth
Whether transitioning into design engineering is a good move
How to improve myself professionally and personally
Tips for improving Malay faster
Financial and life planning for someone at my stage
Whether I’m on the right path to eventually settle down comfortably in Malaysia
Thank you so much in advance for any advice

Fake it till you make it

How did you guys fake it till you make it?

Kerja more than 12 hours + balik rumah also need to siapkan kerja tak sempat siap hari yang sama. Also cuti satu hari seminggu. Gaji RM3.8k. Nak resign berbelah bahagi sebab need the money. Performance merudum sikit sebab burnout for real. Tengah tunggu masa je ni nak kena pecat by boss or dapat warning letter.

Tbh, nak improve my performance. Usually balik rumah tu sumpah dah barai, memang fikir tidur je. Pernah try tidur kejap then bangun sambung kerja. Tak jadi. Terlajak tidur sampai esoknya sebelum kerja 💀

Tahlah pepanjang ni rant apa. Point nak tanya soalan tak sampai 💀

Camne you guys fake it till dah capai simpanan yang cukup before resign? Ada tips praktikal tak?

Need help finding UI/UX Jobs in Selangor [Fresh Grad]

Hello, I'm a recent graduate in Bachelor of Computer Science. I've made the decision to try in the UI/UX field, considering the tough job market for developers. I've been self-taught in the basics, learning all five phases of the Design Thinking process, wireframing, and understanding the basic functionalities of Figma to do so. I know I still have a lot to learn, and I would love to delve deeper into the field, utilizing my creative side while using my CS background to judge a design's feasibility.

I'm currently looking for a UI/UX role as a fresh graduate, since I do not have enough work experience to build up a proper portfolio just yet. I'm still working on my personal case study, but it would be good to find possible jobs while I work on it. Expected salary can be as low as RM2500, considering that's the bare minimum for the role. Prefered location is within Subang Jaya, Petaling Jaya, or anywhere within close distance from a LRT/MRT.

I've tried everything from LinkedIn to Indeed, JobStreet, Maukerja etc... but very little responses so far....which is why I want to try my luck here instead. I really appreciate any insight, advice, or job opportunities.
