[online][other] SUPER HEROES Blades in the Dark game
I’m looking for players interested in trying out RealLife/Heroes, a superhero TTRPG I’ve been developing.
The basic idea: you aren’t just playing a superhero. You’re playing the person who has to live with being one.
You might be an exhausted paramedic who can suddenly move faster than a speeding car. A broke college student who can walk through walls. A wealthy executive hiding an impossible second life. A drifter who discovers they can control fire. An outsider trying to build a life in a city that only knows their masked identity.
RealLife/Heroes is inspired by superhero comics where saving the city is only half the story.
Your character has powers, but they also have Bonds, Responsibilities, Resources, injuries, personal problems, and a life outside the costume. You might spend one session stopping a supervillain from destroying downtown and the next dealing with the consequences of missing your sister’s wedding because you were busy stopping them.
The game uses a narrative, fiction-first system influenced by games like Blades in the Dark. Characters have action ratings for handling dangerous situations, superhero abilities that let them push beyond normal human limits, and downtime between crises where they recover, work on long-term projects, acquire resources, maintain relationships, and attend to their responsibilities.
Campaigns are built around escalating threats and recurring villains. The criminal you stopped in session two might escape prison months later. A trusted NPC might betray the team. A strange phenomenon in the background could slowly reveal itself as something much larger. Eventually, the heroes may discover that all of those seemingly unrelated problems were pieces of the same conspiracy.
And while your hero becomes more capable, their life becomes more complicated.
I’m looking for players who enjoy:
• Character-driven superhero stories
• Roleplaying both heroic and ordinary life
• Recurring villains and long-term story arcs
• Difficult choices and consequences
• Developing relationships with NPCs and other heroes
• Collaborative worldbuilding
• Trying a new system and giving constructive feedback
You do not need to know the system beforehand. I’ll teach everything needed to play, and part of the purpose of the campaign is seeing how the rules work at an actual table.
The tone I’m aiming for is somewhere between street-level superhero drama and big comic-book spectacle. Characters can have incredible powers, but the people underneath the masks still matter.
Scheduling:
Sessions will be held weekly, with the game taking place on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday evenings depending on what works best for the final group. We’ll choose the day that fits everyone’s availability.
If you’re interested, comment or send me a message with:
1. Your experience with TTRPGs (none is completely fine)
2. What you enjoy most about superhero stories
3. A very rough superhero concept you’d be interested in playing
4. What days/times generally work for you
I’m especially interested in players who want to build characters together, so don’t worry about arriving with a fully developed hero.
Come save the world.
Just make sure you’re home in time for work tomorrow.
