Help for an elderly borderline hoarder?
Hi, Amarillo. My mom lives there, and when she finally allowed me to come visit to help her after eye surgery (it had been seven years since I set foot in her home). I was in total shock at the state of her house. She has severe back problems among other health issues and has only been doing the basic house upkeep for years. There are clothes, empty water bottles, unopened parcels, this that and the other EVERYWHERE. It is hoarding behavior, except there is no filth to deal with, so at least there's that. It is a large house and she wants to downsize, but there is no way she can hold an estate sale and sell it until she gets all this stuff dealt with.
I am seeking help for her to get her house together to a normal, livable and sellable state. I would do it myself but I live 250 miles away and have lots of responsibilities here. She has not sought help because she doesn't trust that a stranger would not steal from her or otherwise take advantage of her, and that is a concern for me as well. I know there has to be someone in town who is professional and comes with good references, or perhaps is licensed and insured. She can pay for such a service, but she has limited money so it would have to be a reasonable fee.
Any assistance or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for reading!
