James Blunt - "Your Skin Tastes Like Summer". He's a cannibal y'all

He's a cannibal in the video. Like wtf is going on? The video even has kidnapping someone on a boat. It's really hard for the rational mind to take all this in. This video was released on August 14. Hayden Panettiere died on August 16.

MGM in California in the 1970s?

Anyone else in MGM in California in the 1970s? I was in the original program the first year they started the program in Southern California. Any recollections? I have vague memories, which I'll list below but hoping some other memories get jostled.

Dogs allowed everywhere?

I've not been in Italy that long, but has it always been a thing where dogs are allowed everywhere or is this a fairly recent thing? We went to a local shopping mall to beat the heat, and there were so many dogs inside, and they were pooping and peeing on the tiled floors. I saw smeared dog feces on the floor. Plus it stank of dog. And the dogs were barking at each other and being aggressive with each other. I don't think the dogs were enjoying going inside clothing stores.

Not a question specific to Italy but why can't dogs stay at home any more?

Aggressively knocking on bathroom stalls

Maybe an odd question, but has anyone had repeated experience of having their bathroom stall door aggressively knocked on after you’ve made your presence known that it’s occupied? I came here from London and Brits were so polite, a quiet knock and they scuttled away in shame, whereas Italians will bang on the door again as you’re sitting there doing your business. Is this something others have noticed? Am I missing some social cue in order to not have this happen? I’m genuinely perplexed.

The more I study grammar, the worse my speaking is

I wish I could go back to the days of blissful ignorance when I would just say Italian words and make all kinds of mistakes and I didn't know what I didn't know.

Now as I'm progressing from A2 to B1 in my grammar, my speaking is getting worse and worse.

Walking into a store...what do I do?

I feel like I'm being rude sometimes not greeting a person when I walk into a store, but I'm literally just freaking out inside about what to say. Is it "salve, buongiorno, buonasera (when does the afternoon actually start), or just ciao?"

Sometimes I've walked into a store and said "salve" but then they respond with "ciao." It's all over the place and I feel like i made a mistake. Also, is there a magical time when you switch to buonasera? When is that time? My understanding is no one uses buon pomeriggio any more. I thought "ciao" was supposed to be too informal for people working in stores to greet you but I'm hearing it all the time in Rome.

Italians are too nice

I was waiting in line for an exhibit here in Rome and there were two Italian ladies in front of me, and we chatted (in English) and one asked me whether I was studying Italian and I literally just said "sto imparando" and they both applauded lol.

You guys are too nice. You need to be tougher. Two freaking words and I got such praise.

For those lacking subtlety I am obviously being tongue in cheek but I just wanted to make a post of appreciation for how generous Italians have been with me while I struggle learning the language.

Scusi/scusa almost broke me!

As if the Italian language isn't complicated enough... and as an English speaker you have to learn the difference between tu/you and Lei/you. And then you memorize the conjugations and tu basically ends in i and Lei takes the third person singular ending...

EXCEPT in the case of scusi/scusa where it's the exact opposite and scusi (i) is formal and scusa (a -which sounds like a 3rd person sing. ending) is informal.

Lord, I don't think I will ever get this language.

Instascam

I've seen a few people on IG who gave the details about how little they were paid for their viral videos. One woman had 14 million views on a video over TikTok, Youtube and IG and in total made under $300.

I feel like we're all just chasing a fantasy that does not exist.

Having trouble following dialogue

Is it just me? Or is the non-linear poetry nature of the dialogue hard to follow sometimes? I read the books like a million years ago so I don't remember much about them other than IWTV. But the dialogue is a bit odd and kind of self-referential and not straightforward.

Italy confuses me

I've been here for a year and married to an Italian. US citizen living in Rome. Italy has it all...beauty, food, architecture, weather, beaches, mountains. But why is it so fucked up?! Driving outside Rome just massive buildings that look like projects and cities that appear to be half-populated. All the young people leave. Crappy jobs, low wages. Streets outside the historic center littered with garbage and look like 3rd world (can't blame immigrants for that!). Plus so many scammers. Had a delivery guy steal my meat and veg from my grocery delivery. I felt bad for him. Are you really that poor? What is going on here? It's the world's 7th largest economy.

What is your eye color?

I just want to see something…

Update: I cannot update the poll, so for those of you with multicolored eyes, just put the prominant color. What would the average person say your eye color is if they aren't staring intently at your eyes?

Outlast and Abby’s gel nails… was it all fake?

Did anyone else see that Abby had fully intact gel nails in the finale? That would not be possible to maintain for 30 days, especially doing the kind of manual labor that was entailed.

Also when Nikki was hiding in the grass so that team Charlie would now see her, and had the camera close in on her… how was the camera hidden from Charlie?

Gifted programs as racial segregation

I was in the gifted program called MGM back in the 1970s. And I know for a fact that in my school district it was used as a way to maintain racial segregation of school districts, and create schools within schools. I don't have any sinister memories of GATE, but I was a speed reader, learned about cool things like architecture, got to go on field trips. I also have hazel eyes, had a dent on my forehead above my right eyebrow where I was told I got hit by a swing, got a lot of nosebleeds, and always felt "different" than the rest psychically and spiritually. I feel like spiritually I am very good at cleansing energy spaces and eradicating demonic/alien presences fwiw.
