What to do, where to go to spend a day in Downtown/get to know it better? :) Any suggestions

I've lived in LA all my life and never go out, but I'll be going to downtown to spend a day there with some close friends (19-24), so what are any places that are worth going to that aren't ridiculously expensive? We don't mind spending a little money since we plan on just exploring really (and everything is expensive anyways), and we never hang out, so what are the places worth going to, shopping at, taking pictures at? We'll probably go see some museums, Angels Hill just because, Scentbar to try out/buy some niche perfume, Little Tokyo (unsure what stores yet), Fashion District to get fabric to decorate our homes (clearly very random stuff LOL) but any food, unique vintage/thrift stores that are actually worth going to, artsy places, nice drinks? Hidden gems? I don't know, really ANYTHING is acceptable, I just want a list of things to do, places to shop at, anything that will help us spend the day there without getting bored just walking around in Downtown since this is our first time really going. Thanks so much in advance!

Currently on a short trip in Bosnia and want to buy something small like a simple, unique ring to add to my very small gold collection. But everywhere I go there are a bunch of stores that sell jewelry. It's obvious that some are fake/gold plated and not complete real solid gold because it says outside/you go in and the prices are already written there. But all stores have it all shown as if its the real stuff and I'm not sure how to ask without sounding like a stupid foreigner, especially because everyone is so serious and quick here, especially if I say something like, "Is the gold all real/solid/not gold plated" and then asking, "So what stores do sell the legit stuff?" Sorry for the dumb question, I know they shouldn't get offended if its real but I just don't want problems or misunderstandings. Thanks
