Pixel Service - A sad state of affairs

I have a Pixel 8 and like almost every one, last year I got the infamous green line issue on my display. The problems I faced then:

  • Google authorized service centers are more scarce than unicorns in my country. So of course, I had to travel to another city 4 hours away to get it repaired under warranty.
  • Even under a warranty, I had to pay for the "diagnosis charge" that the service centers asks for which was not a small amount for inspecting the phone.
  • If that wasn't all, I did NOT know that I needed to format the phone before submitting it - they told me right then that I needed to do that or else they won't accept my phone. I lost all my data.

Cut to six-seven months later:

  • I don't know if the "professionals" at the authorized service center were untrained, but months after I got my phone repaired, dust started to accumulate inside the display over the front camera.
  • Pissed at Google, I contacted them again for repairs (essentially, I told them they only needed to wipe off the dust since now they had compromised my IP68 resistance (I guess)).
  • They gave me an estimated cost - which was absurd.
  • I went again to an authorized service center - which in itself is a task. The modus operandi of their staff is beyond me.
  • I got it inspected and they outright denied accepting the device for repair citing a "display damage risk" and the "chances of my front camera not being able to produce sharp images as before". WTF.
  • I asked them to consult their senior engineer and they agreed to do that free of cost (how generous of them!); they came back citing the same denial and asked me to change the display and the camera both. BOTH!
  • I asked them how much it would cost to get the display and camera changed. Then they gave me the cost...a gut-wrenching figure.
  • The guy was nice and he advised me to keep using the for a year until the camera becomes unusable.

Google - if you can't make good, durable phones and establish reliable service centers then stop promising 7 years of software updates. People would not be able to use subpar hardware until that long. Just effing stop. It's not just about Pixel 8s - Pixels 9s have also suffered the same fate.

I used to be a Google fanboy but their sheer negligence and ignorance is driving me nuts.

Nothing fancy, just my cozy little workspace

Little-by-little, I have managed to enhance my desk setup which now looks like this. Would appreciate suggestions. 🙌🏻

The WiFi tile takes a split second to respond

I noticed that the newly added Wifi tile in Android 17 takes a split second to respond, especially when turning WiFi off. Anyone else notice this?

A minor bug in Android 17

A minor one, yet an eyebrow raiser. The Adaptive Sound status shows as "Off" even when turned on.

I don't know if this bug can be found in other areas too.

What the eff Instagram?!

41%!! This is absurd battery usage overnight. And what does 26 minutes of background usage even mean? What a joke this app has become!

Weirdly enough, I do not have the June Pixel Drop

This is The first time that this has happened. So I knew there was a Google Play System update as well along with the June pixel drop. So I updated the Google Play System update first only to see that the June pixel drop was not there for my Pixel 8. I am not sure if this happened because I updated the Google Play System update first. I have restarted my phone multiple times since but no luck.

Anyone else?

Edit: My bad, I mentioned 'Pixel Drop' instead of 'Android Drop'. I meant Android Drop.

Gemini just admitted that it's unreliable

So I was having a conversation with Gemini where after sometime, it contradicted its own answer that it had given earlier. When confronted, it outright denied giving a response to my question and instead it said it hallucinated to present me with a false narrative and therefore it's unreliable.

Note: I am not posting the exact screenshot of the above scenario where it said it hallucinated and admitted of being unreliable as it contains some traces of my personal conversation (yeah, sorry about that) but I am posting what followed next.

This is in the Google Gallery app that I have noticed with the little time I have spent with my Pixel 8 after the update. I'm pretty sure this wasn't happening before updating because I use the Gallery app every day.

So the explanation of the screen recording is this: whenever I navigate back to the previous screen within the app (provided there is), the app minimises. As you can see in the recording, I'm inside one of the folders. If I try to go back even a step (to the homepage of the app), the app gets minimised.

I'm not sure if other apps are affected too.
