Thailand may add a 450 THB tourism fee for foreign visitors

This one is still being discussed, so it's not something you have to pay yet.

The current proposal is 450 THB per person, whether you enter by air, land or sea.

The plan is:

  • Air arrivals first
  • Land and sea later
  • Around 180 days after the final rule is published in the Royal Gazette

The money would go toward things like tourism development, attractions and insurance/safety for visitors.

They're holding a 30-day public hearing first, so things could still change.

This is what I love Khao Yai

Missing Khao Yai during rainy season.
Found this pic taken last year in December. Nothing fancy, just a nice place to grab a coffee and enjoy the view. One of my favorite stops in Khao Yai.
It’s a small cafe with a huge lawn, great views, and a really relaxing atmosphere. Hope to be back in the dry season again.

Thailand is changing its airport baggage screening rules from Oct 2026

Starting 16 Oct 2026, airport security in Thailand can open your checked luggage without you being there if the X-ray flags something suspicious.

If they open your bag, the whole inspection will be recorded and they'll leave a notice inside.

If they find something that's not allowed, they can take it.

CAAT says the new rule is to bring Thailand in line with international airport security standards.

[Planning] 7-day trip from Bangkok (Aug 29 - Sep 4) – Khao Yai? OR else? Seeking advice!

Hi everyone,

I'm flying from HCMC to BKK (Aug 29 - Sep 4) and looking for a 7D6N itinerary outside of Bangkok. I’ve already visited Bangkok, Pattaya, and Ayutthaya.

I’m currently considering Khao Yai & Kanchanaburi, or spend some days in Bangkok (explore different/uncommon experiences)

My concerns for Khao Yai:

  • It’s just 2 of us. Private cars are pricey, so we’re thinking of renting motorbikes. Is this feasible for getting to the National Park, Toscana Valley, Primo Piazza, etc.?
  • Where’s the best area to stay, or are there nearby hidden gems I should check out?

Alternative ideas:

  • I looked into Chiang Mai/Chiang Rai, but flights are expensive (~$120 USD) and the 13-hour bus ride is too much for me.
  • Ideally, I want spots within a 2-3 hour drive from Bangkok, where I can explore a cluster of attractions and loop back to BKK for my flight.

Questions:

  1. Which route would you recommend for a 7-day trip, considering we want a mix of nature and sightseeing?
  2. Any "on-the-go" route suggestions (A -> B -> C -> D) that fit a 7-day loop starting and ending in Bangkok? Or else, we can make BKK as base & go back to BKK after each trip.

Any tips or itinerary advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Bangkok’s newest mall is actually pretty cool

Just visited Cloud 11. Lots of open space, restaurants, creative studios. It feels pretty new and not fully opened shops yet but worth checking out.
