Starting over after a divorce. Need mattress recommendations for my two kids (under $1,000 each).

I'm going through a divorce, and in about 15 days I'll be moving into a new place with my kids.

One of the things that's really important to me is making their new rooms feel comfortable and like home, so I'm trying to get their mattresses right the first time.

I took both of them to a bunch of stores (Tempur-Pedic, Mattress Firm, Mattress Depot, etc.) and just let them lie on everything without steering them one way or another. Unsurprisingly, they ended up liking completely different things.

My 10-year-old son (80 lbs) fell in love with a Beautyrest medium pillow-top. He likes that hotel-bed feel with a little bounce, soft on top, but still supportive. He definitely doesn't like the feeling of sinking into the mattress. I'm thinking a medium hybrid or innerspring with a plush pillow top or Euro top would probably be the right direction.

My 14-year-old daughter (160 lbs) was the exact opposite. She absolutely loved the super-soft Tempur-Pedic and also really liked Purple. She wants that "melt into the mattress" feeling. My only concern is making sure she still has good support since she's growing, and I don't want something that's so soft it'll cause problems down the road.

My budget is around $1,000 or less per queen mattress.

I've looked at Costco (Novaform, Leesa, Sealy, Casper), but I'm open to buying elsewhere if there's something that's clearly better in that price range.

If these were your kids, what would you buy? I'd especially love to hear from people who've actually slept on these mattresses for a year or two, not just tested them in a showroom.

Thanks so much,I really appreciate any advice. This whole mattress shopping thing has been way more overwhelming than I ever expected.

Need real tent camping recommendations in Western WA (from Everett)

Hey all,

Looking for some legit camping recommendations. I’m not some hardcore camper or anything, but trying to find a really solid tent camping spot for this summer.

Looking around western WA, preferably within like 2–3 hours from Everett.

Big things for me: Shade. A lot of it. Full shade if possible. Flat ground. Water access (lake/puget ideally). Power hookups would be great. Bathrooms/toilets. And if it feels secluded and quiet, even better.

I’ve been to a few spots already:

Used to do Potholes at Moses Lake years ago but that place kinda went downhill.

Vista Park down by the Columbia was awesome, but that drive is a bit much.

Mossyrock/Riffe Lake was probably the best one we found, but sounds like they lost some of their best sites and water access got messy.

Tried Vasa Park in Sammamish too — nice place overall, super clean, but the tent spots had basically no shade and felt too close to the road for me.

Don’t really care if it’s state park, private, federal, whatever. Just looking for a good peaceful spot with trees, water, and decent privacy.

TL;DR: Need a good tent camping spot in western WA within 2–3 hours of Everett. Full shade, flat ground, water access, bathrooms, power, and some privacy. Hit me with your best spots.

I Read Your Divorce Stories for a Year. Now I'm Living Mine.

Well, last year around this time, I asked my fellow Redditors about divorce and its impact on kids and life. Some said it was the best decision they ever made, while others said it made their lives a living nightmare.

Well, last week I made the decision, and in two weeks I am moving out to start the divorce process. Talking to the kids was the hardest part. They understood what was happening. My teenager was much more aware than my younger child, who is 9.

The mom and I have agreed on many things. We're not going to use lawyers, and we're going to do our best to keep this friendly and peaceful. It's going to be rough for a while, especially during the move and transition, but I am truly positive that it will get better. I will do everything I can to make sure this becomes one of the best decisions I have made for my kids and myself.

Wish me luck, brothers. And if you're early in the process and thinking about it, I would tell you to do what your heart tells you. If you're further along in the process, I'm sending you positive vibes and hoping things went well for you and your kids, if you have any.

Virgin Solo Cruises…actually fun or just floating disappointment for single dudes? 😂

Alright I am gonna ask this here because I keep seeing ads for these Virgin solo cruises and now I am curious as hell 😂

For the people that actually went on one:

Is it genuinely fun for a solo guy in his 40s or is it one of those things that looks amazing online and then turns into a floating awkward LinkedIn networking event with tequila?

I am not looking for some crazy swinger thing or weird cult vibes. More like:

good energy

good food

gym

nightlife

relaxation

meeting people naturally

maybe flirting and hookups if it happens naturally

What’s the REAL women to men ratio like?

Are people actually social or everyone stays in their little groups?

And is Virgin actually the best option for this stuff or are there better cruises for solo travelers?

Also…be brutally honest:

Is it more “this changed my life”

or more “I spent 4 grand to stand near a DJ with divorced accountants” 😅
