Joint Resistance Forces Defend Against Junta Offensive into Magway Region – Over 30 Clashes, at Least 50 Junta Soldiers Killed in action Over 450 Still Remain

The "Anyar Tama" Operation Group has announced that resistance forces have engaged a junta column of approximately 500 troops that entered Pakokku District, Magway Region, in over 30 separate clashes since May, resulting in no fewer than 50 junta soldiers killed.

The junta forces, numbering around 500, launched an offensive into Magway Region and have been conducting military operations in Pakokku District since May. In response, local resistance forces in Pakokku District formed the "Anyar Tama" Operation to defend civilians and expand liberated territories.

The junta column entered Pauk Township via Myaing Township's Twinmapyu Camp in early June, then advanced through Myaing Township to Kaing Taw Ma Village. From there, they continued along routes passing through Kaing Taw Ma, Wet Pote, Baw Done, Baung Pin, Thin Ma, Yagyi Pyin, Taung Son, and Hmar Yin villages, engaging in over 30 clashes of varying intensity with "Anyar Tama" forces.

During these battles, at least 50 junta soldiers were confirmed killed, with many more wounded. Resistance forces also seized weapons and ammunition from the junta.

Additionally, four unarmed young soldiers from the junta column defected and surrendered to the resistance. They were reunited with their families and returned to their respective homes, according to the "Anyar Tama" Operation Group.

The following resistance groups participated in the joint defense against the junta column:

· Magway People's Defense Force

· Magway Federal Unit columns

· Burma People's Liberation Army (BPLA)

· Pakokku District-based battalions and local defense groups

· All Burma Students' Democratic Front (ABSDF)

· Regional People's Defense columns (No. 4)

· MRG forces

· Kamma coalition forces

· Kamma Security Forces

· PLC coalition forces

· Myaing Unity Coalition

· Galon People's Defense Force

· Anyar Myay coalition

· Yinmabin District battalions

· Pwalay People's Defense Force

· Myingyan Black Tiger force

On the other side, the junta column has burned down approximately 300 homes in 11 villages across Pauk and Myaing townships, and killed 24 civilians.

Residents near the junta column's routes have been urged to remain vigilant and not take the military movements lightly.

Additionally, the "Anyar Tama" group has called on young soldiers who were forcibly conscripted into the junta army—and their parents—to contact the resistance and escape rather than continue serving the junta.

The "Anyar Tama" Operation Group stated that they will continue to defend civilians and resist junta forces by all available means, and will further strengthen unity and cooperation among revolutionary forces.

Arakan army battle statement update

Battle Update Statement

August 5, 2026

The fascist junta forces are simultaneously launching offensives in Magway Region, Bago Region, Ayeyarwady Region, as well as southern Chin State and areas bordering Arakan territory. Similarly, they are continuously carrying out airstrikes—day and night, at any time—on towns, villages, hospitals, schools, and religious buildings in AA-controlled areas including Kyauktaw, Mrauk-U, Thandwe, Gwa, Kyeintali, Wai Tha Na Ni (Pauktaw), and the Pyin Phyu (Ponnagyun)-Sittwe border areas. They are also shelling from naval warships deployed at sea.

Therefore, ground battles continue in every area where the junta is attempting to break through. Since they are suffering casualties and losing ground in these ground engagements, they are accelerating their airstrikes—their only advantage—and relying on them heavily. This pattern is not only visible in areas where the AA is fighting but also in other conflict zones across Myanmar.

The main battlefronts, particularly in the Arakan-Ayeyarwady border areas, continue to see intense fighting on some days. During July 2026, due to heavy rains and weather conditions, both offensive and defensive operations fluctuated in intensity. However, there was hardly a single day without fighting—large or small battles occurred almost daily in one location or another.

There were times when the junta launched massive offensives toward their positions, and the AA also carried out counter-offensives. On days without direct ground clashes, the enemy resorted to artillery, drone strikes, and airstrikes almost daily.

The junta has reinforced its forces from Pathein's Regional Military Command (Na Ta Kha). In an attempt to enter Gwa Town, Arakan State, junta forces under the command of Light Infantry Division (LID) 66—specifically Infantry Battalions (IB) 1 and 11—clashed with the Arakan Army in two separate engagements on August 2, 2026, near Yone Pin Village, Yegyi Township, Ayeyarwady Region, approximately 3.7 km and 3.3 km northwest of the village. The battles lasted nearly two hours in total.

First Engagement: At approximately 3.3 km northwest of Yone Pin Village, Yegyi Township, Ayeyarwady Region, fighting broke out from 11:50 AM to 1:50 PM. The enemy attacked using drones and multiple ground support elements. The battle lasted 2 hours, and the AA defended and counter-attacked effectively, forcing the enemy to retreat with heavy casualties. The AA seized enemy bodies and some weapons and ammunition.

Second Engagement: At approximately 3.7 km northwest of Yone Pin Village, Yegyi Township, Ayeyarwady Region, a second battle erupted starting around 3:04 PM. The enemy again launched a large-scale offensive, but the AA mounted strong defensive and counter-offensive operations. The enemy suffered heavy casualties, broke formation, and fled in disarray. This battle lasted over an hour, and the AA again seized enemy bodies and weapons.

On August 1, 2026, the AA also fought a fierce battle against junta forces near Thapaung Lay Village, Thapaung Township, Ayeyarwady Region, approximately 1.06 km east of the village. The fighting lasted nearly two hours, from 1:51 PM to 3:40 PM, and the AA again captured enemy weapons and ammunition.

The AA Headquarters commends the Arakan soldiers who fought with courage and skill, executing well-coordinated defensive operations against every junta offensive.

The crashed aircraft near Nyaung Hnin Pin Village, Hmawbi Township, is a Chinese-made FTC-2000G aircraft.

The Myanmar Military and Security Study Group has announced that the aircraft which crashed near Nyaung Hnin Pin Village, Hmawbi Township, Yangon Region, is a Chinese-made FTC-2000G type aircraft.

The military junta issued a statement that yesterday, August 3, at 5:16 AM, one of its fighter jets, during a training flight, collided with a bird near Nyaung Hnin Pin Village, Hmawbi Township, causing the engine to catch fire. Due to the engine fire, the pilot lost control and used the ejection system to escape, surviving the incident.

The crashed aircraft type is an FTC-2000G jet fighter. Although the junta has reported that it crashed during a training flight, the Myanmar Military and Security Study Group noted that most flights during early morning hours are typically conducting aerial bombing operations.

"The crash was an FTC-2000G, tail number 1407, and the pilots are not dead," the Myanmar Military and Security Study Group said, citing a military source.

The crashed FTC-2000G Tail No (1407) was commissioned into service on December 15, 2024, during the 77th anniversary of the Armed Forces (Air Force). This crash marks the third FTC-2000G fighter jet lost by the junta air force.

The FTC-2000G fighter jets are based at Nam San Air Base, but they are also reportedly deployed and used for bombing operations from Meiktila (Shan Taw), Magway, and Hmawbi air bases.

The junta air force purchased 12 Chinese-made FTC-2000G light attack jets to replace its aging F-7 interceptor fighters, with the first arrivals beginning in 2022.

CNO/CNDF President Removed from Position After Meeting with Junta Representatives in India; CNO/CNDF Declares It Will Continue Fighting Alongside Allies and Public with Loyalty to the Spring Revolution

August 4

The Chin National Organization/Chin National Defense Force (CNO/CNDF) has officially announced that it has removed its President from his post after he met with representatives of the junta's National Solidarity and Peacemaking Coordination Committee (NSPNC) in New Delhi, India. The organization stated it will continue to fight alongside the public and allied revolutionary forces, remaining loyal to the original goals of the Spring Revolution.

Sai Tin Myat Htut (aka) Sai Tin Myat, a spokesperson for CNO/CNDF, told Yangon Modern News Agency that the President, as the leader primarily responsible for the organization's policies and the meeting in question, was removed from his position. He stated that this represents the organization's strongest and most effective disciplinary action.

"The President is the highest leader who holds primary responsibility for the organization's policies. Since he bore primary responsibility for this meeting, removing him from his post is the most effective and strongest action we can take. What we want to tell the public is that CNO/CNDF will continue to fight the revolution and will stand united with allied organizations. We will remain loyal to the revolution and continue our struggle," said Sai Tin Myat Htut.

In a statement issued on August 3, CNO/CNDF announced that the organization was established on April 13, 2021, and has been armed resistance against the military dictatorship since its early days. It reaffirmed that it continues to firmly uphold its fundamental policy of "the emergence of a federal democratic union with the eradication of all forms of dictatorship and guaranteed self-determination."

The statement also noted that the organization has fought alongside allied revolutionary forces not only in Chin State and Sagaing Region but also in other regions. Together with Chin brotherhood forces, it successfully captured Falam Town. During the revolution, many CNO/CNDF comrades have sacrificed their lives, been wounded, and endured other hardships.

Recently, news circulated on social media and news outlets that some CNO officials had met with the junta's NSPNC representatives in New Delhi, India. Following this, CNO clarified that the meeting was conducted entirely on the initiative of some leaders without the knowledge, approval, authorization, or consent of the organization's Central Committee (CC), Central Executive Committee (CEC), Political Steering Committee (PSC), or Defense Council (DC).

CNO/CNDF explicitly stated that the meeting and any discussions held during it do not in any way represent the organization's official stance, decisions, or policies. It also confirmed that no political or military agreements, commitments, or understandings were made with the NSPNC.

The organization further reaffirmed that CNO is a founding member of the Chin Brotherhood, respects and abides by the collective decisions of the ICNCC/CB and allied revolutionary forces, and will not engage in unilateral meetings or political negotiations with the military junta without the consent of its allies.

Regarding the unauthorized meeting, investigations were conducted, during which the President himself admitted primary responsibility and submitted his resignation from the presidency. The Central Committee accepted and approved his resignation, thereby terminating his presidential duties.

CNO/CNDF declared that it will remain loyal to the trust of the public and the original goals of the Spring Revolution, and will continue to strive alongside allied revolutionary forces for the establishment of a federal democratic union, the achievement of justice, and the complete eradication of military dictatorship. The organization also emphasized its unity, policies, and commitment moving forward.

Junta naval convoys advancing up the Chindwin River reach Homalin after coming under consecutive attacks from revolutionary forces

Junta military vessels that traveled up the Chindwin River through Phaungpyin Township, Sagaing Region, have reached Homalin town's port after coming under fire from revolutionary forces along the waterway, according to local military sources.

A total of 21 military ships departed from Monywa port on July 15 and traveled upriver. After four days of navigating through Phaungpyin Township, they arrived in Homalin on the morning of July 19.

"Last night they stayed at Tilong village and continued upriver. This morning around 8 a.m., they reached Khopaywa port, and from there all ships docked at Homalin port at 10 a.m. Some flatboats are reportedly continuing up to Khamti," said a Phaungpyin military source.

While the naval convoy advanced through Phaungpyin Township, revolutionary forces attacked them daily with heavy and small arms.

During the attacks, one ship was sunk and three were damaged. The junta had to make time for repairs on the damaged ships before continuing the difficult journey to Homalin, according to the Phaungpyin source.

"When they left Monywa, there were 22 ships. But only 21 reached Phaungpyin. One was sunk due to our attacks. Now heading to Homalin, only 20 ships continued—they left behind the ones that couldn't be repaired," said a Monywa military source.

On the other side, the military ships returned fire with heavy weapons toward revolutionary positions. Additionally, junta warplanes—including Y-12s and jet fighters from Homalin, Tada-U, and Kalay airbases—conducted continuous airstrikes along the riverbank villages.

Junta aircraft reportedly carried out no fewer than 100 airstrikes from July 15 to 18 on villages including Sakata, Lan Lay Khar, Mawk Sa Phar, Nan Maw Leik, Khwa Lel, Nan Si Mar, Helaw, Kyo Kone, Thar Si, Sit Thaung, Nga Ywar Wa, Moe Kaung, Ka Ywar, Kwan Taung, Min Zet, and Kone Taung, according to locals.
