What’s the science behind associating emotional experiences with places?

As a biology major undergraduate whose university does not have food science related resources, how should I get my first experience in the subject or industry?

Curious about what food science labs do—crush ingredients and test them? Are the labs more like biology or chemistry labs? Currently an undergrad in biology in California.
