Does the game save for the second phase? (the Elephant guy) like can I close the game and continue at the Elephant phase?

Im in Autumms fall and the game seems so much harder all of a sudden..
Am I missing some gameplay mechanics or do I have to grind out the previous region a bit more?

I dont have the materials to get better gear unfortunately.

So Gaius and Muze are just kind of healing each other a bunch and I struggle to progress in the fight because of that. Am I supposed to Attack Gaius or Muze first. Idk anything I need to look out for. some tips for just doing more deamage
