How do I make the most of a networking call?

I am a junior in engineering. I connected with a recent grad of my school working in the area I'm interested in, and he gave me the contact of a senior engineer at a huge engineering company who also works in that area. After emailing, he agreed to call / chat next week, and I'm quite excited and nervous.

What do you think I should try to gain from this call? I obviously know better than to directly ask for a referral / job, and I have a couple questions I want to ask, but do you have any overarching advice or guidance for how to make the most of this opportunity and future networking opportunities?

Advice for meeting with graduate student about research.

Hi.

I'm a sophomore in engineering and I've been emailing around about research work in the department. One professor got back to me saying she was too busy but I could meet with her grad student. After reaching out to him, he offered to meet me later this week.

I've never done this before, so I don't know what to expect honestly. Will this be more of a casual chat or something like an interview? Is this a good sign in terms of getting the role? Literally any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

Meeting with a PhD student about joining their lab — what should I expect?

I'm a sophomore in engineering. I emailed a professor about doing research in her group this summer/fall. She replied saying she didn't have time but pointed me to one of her PhD students, and that grad student offered to meet in person this week.

I've never done a meeting like this before. Is it more of an interview vibe or just a chill conversation? How much should I prep? Do I actually need to read his papers or is that overkill for a first meeting? And what kinds of questions should I be ready to answer vs. ask?

Any advice from grad students who've been on the other side of this would be appreciated. Thanks.
