Oral challenge

So my 8 month old was taken to the allergist because she had a rash after eating potato and banana. She tested negative for both of those, but tested positive for peanut. I’d never given her any at home before. The doctor wants to do an oral food challenge. Her test was at a 3.06 IGE. I’m not sure how nervous I should be? The chart says this is high but Google is saying it’s fairly low. What can I do to be prepared for the appointment?

Advanced ELA

Hi!

My campus has not had an advanced ELA class for years, I’ve been asking to have one reintroduced but have always been shot down. we are getting a new principal who has decided we need one, and with thirteen days left until our first day of school (we’re early I know) I’ve been offered to teach it. Except with so little time I have no idea where to start.

For my gen ed class I usually start with the hunger games and the RACE method. I do not read the entire novel but handpick the chapters that are most necessary, and we usually read about 70% of the book. I always read it aloud in class.

Should an advanced class be using the same novel? Should I find a more challenging text in the same genre? Can I expect students to read independently? At home or should I work in SSR time? Can they handle the entire novel? Do I keep content generally the same but move quicker and deeper and have higher expectations? I imagine I can do more with discussions and projects.

I’m just not really sure where to start.

Bad day

Today was a bad day. My 6 mo old would not nap. Like all day. We got maybe two 20 minute naps in. Therefore my nearly three year old got not much 1-1 time. Way too many episodes of bluey today, but we did have a bike car wash, watered the garden together, went on a walk, and she helped make dinner. But..:

During bedtime routine I thought I had the baby down. She woke up mid books with my toddler so I brought her in to cuddle and rock during. I eventually tell toddler goodnight and am rocking baby. Toddler comes out to go to the bathroom, comes out to ask for water, and then scream cries in her bed because blanket isn’t right. Each time I put baby down before she’s asleep and she starts crying. Eventually I get frustrated and was like “just let me do it I’ll come check on you after and I’ll be faster if you just let me.” She kinda rolled over and sadly said “go rock sister”

By the time I went back into her room she was already asleep. I feel awful not having gotten the repair before she went to sleep. I feel bad for blaming the baby on why I couldn’t lay with her more. I feel like I did a bad job today.
