Male Square Taper Bottom Bracket

Male Square Taper Bottom Bracket

I picked up a budget mountain bike for my 8 year old and found this, I’ve never seen this before, but I’m rather new to bikes. Can I install the old cranks on a normal square taper bottom bracket? Seems to fit but haven’t pressed the cranks on.

My kids bikes for 2026

We haven’t been to the track yet this year but the bikes are ready.

Kid #4 - newly 6 and 46” tall, Staats Superstock mini with crupi mini 24h hubs and box rims, Sinz fork, and Rennen 30mm stem, answer micro bars. He’s between 115mm cranks and 120mm at the moment. The bike is 10.2 pounds… so close!

Kid #3 - 8 and 51” tall. Staats Bloodline Junior frame, answer mini forks, 45mm stem and 3” box bars. 135mm cranks.

Kid #2 - 10 and 60” tall. Rift Pro frame, 40mm LDC stem, and sinz expert forks. 5.5“ insight alloy bars. Made the move to 160mm two piece cranks and front 1 3/8 answer carve tire. Crupi expert wheelset.

Kid #1 - 12 and 5’8” tall. Yess Type X Pro XL frame and Reach fork because he had an all carbon fork and he cases jumps. Promax 170mm cranks. Staystrong wheelset and IRC 1.5” tires. 7” answer flat iron bars. He wants the rear wheel in tighter but we we assess the gearing and then if it’s ok think about a half link chain.

We have an appointment at the bank next week but I want to ask here and sound like an idiot on the internet before I’m an idiot in person. We are doing an unconventional new build, a construction company bought our lot and funded some of the larger bills in the beginning, most of the work is done by us and funded by us. The plan was to sell the old house and move into the new house but of course we are behind schedule and will have to move into a rental for a couple of months while we finish. Can we square up with the “builder” and purchase with a bank mortgage before it is finished or do we need to wait until the house is completed and final inspection?

My son’s first time on a bike in a full 6 months! We will see if it all fits after a broth spurt.
