Persistent burning pain behind the inner knee (medial hamstring insertion) after overexertion

Hello,

I am a regular walker, but about three weeks ago, I overdid it and walked much more than my usual distance in a single day.

I have been experiencing this burning pain behind the knee, at the root of the medial tendon.

Since then, I’ve been quite proactive: I’ve seen an orthopedic surgeon, a physical therapist, and had an MRI done. The physical/manual exam by the doctor was generally okay (he focused on structural damage). The MRI did not show any inflammation, fluid, or acute structural damage, only some chondropathy.

The doctor prescribed Meloxicam, and I am currently on day 12 of taking it. Neither the doctor nor the PT has given me a clear explanation for the persistent pain I’m feeling at the base of the medial hamstring in the back of the knee.

I’ve been trying to rest within the house while avoiding long walks, but after walking more than usual I still have this strange, sometimes burning sensation in that specific spot. Even while resting - and despite taking 15mg of Meloxicam - the burning pain remains. There is no specific point of tenderness (no pinpoint pain) on the knee itself.

I am stuck on how to proceed: Should I avoid everything that triggers this burning sensation (as some suggest), or should I try to use the leg/stay to some extent?

I would really appreciate any insights or similar experiences. Thanks in advance for your help!

Overdid it with walking (32 k steps) 3 weeks ago - now I have a problem with my left knee

Hello,

I am not seeking medical advice, only interested if someone else has gone through this and how they coped with it.

I'm a 40-year-old male. I normally walk a lot and regularly, with my usual baseline being around 20-25k daily steps. However, three weeks ago I walked way too much and ended up doing 32k steps.

Around the 29-30k step mark, I slowly and gradually started feeling my left knee. It's hard to describe precisely; it developed into a vague pain and a sensation of pressure. Although my symptoms weren't particularly severe then - sometimes a burning sensation on the front-inner part of the knee - preferred to stay in bed, iced it, and elevated my left leg for a while.

As a bit of background, years ago there was a sign of meniscus degeneration, but I had no symptoms at all for many years.

So, I decided to get it checked out, so I saw an orthopedic surgeon, a PT and had an MRI done.

The physical, manual examination by the doctor and the PT was basically okay. The MRI shoved no inflammation or fluid, or any injury. It did show ICRS 1-2 (chondropathy) in the left medial meniscus. Interestingly, I had something very similar found back in 2009.

The doctor prescribed me meloxicam. I still have this weird, "foreign" and "pressure" feeling in my left knee that I did not have before this incident. I have been taking this drug for 8 days now, the pressure and burning sensation still present.

I have been trying to move around the apartment, no waking of course, but still I have this burning sensation above and under the patella and on the side of it, with this inner "pressure" sensation sometimes. I did the stretching excersises the PT taught me, not sure if they make a difference.

So, I really don't understand what could be wrong or what to expect next... If you have been dealing with this as well, what helped you to get through it?

Thank you everyone, I appreciate your input!

Overdid it with walking (32k steps) and now I have a problem with my left knee

Hello,

I'm a 40-year-old male. I wouldn't say I'm exceptionally fit, but I do walk a lot and regularly, with my usual baseline being around 20-25k daily steps. However, last week on Thursday, I walked way too much and ended up doing 32k steps.

Around the 29-30k step mark, I slowly and gradually started feeling my left knee. It's hard to describe precisely; it developed into a vague pain and a sensation of pressure. Although my symptoms weren't particularly severe - sometimes a bit of pain here and there, sometimes a burning sensation on the front-inner part of the knee - preferred to stay in bed, iced it, and elevated my left leg for two weeks.Things did improve over the next few days.

As a bit of background, years ago there was a sign of meniscus degeneration, but I had no symptoms at all for many years.

So, I decided to get it checked out, so I saw an orthopedic surgeon yesterday and had an MRI done.

The physical, manual examination by the doctor was okay. However, the MRI showed ICRS 1-2 (chondropathy) in the left medial meniscus. Interestingly, I had something very similar found back in 2009.

The doctor prescribed me meloxicam. I still have this weird, "foreign" and "pressure" feeling in my left knee that I did not have before this incident. I don't really understand what could be wrong or what to expect next...

When should I try putting full weight on it again, and does anyone have experience with how long this weird pressure sensation takes to go away?

Thank you everyone, I appreciate your input!

MRI one week after left overuse knee overuse

I have been experiencing pain and pressure in the inner medial part of my left knee for about a week after overuse. No swelling or redness, no local warmth and full range of motion is preserved.

Do you see any obvious pathology in these slides?

I appreciate you insights, thank you in advance!

Overdid it with walking (32k steps) and now my left knee hurts. Next steps?

Hello,

Last week on Thursday, I walked way too much - instead of my usual 20-25k daily steps, I did 32k. (Basically, I wouldn't say I'm exceptionally fit, but I do walk a lot and regularly). Around the 29-30k step mark, I slowly and gradually started feeling my left knee. It's hard to describe precisely; it developed into a vague pain and a sensation of pressure. Although my symptoms aren't particularly severe - sometimes a bit of pain here and there, sometimes a burning sensation on the front-inner part of the knee - I preferred to stay in bed, iced it, and elevated my left leg. Things have improved the past few days.

What do you think the next steps should be, and when should I try putting weight on it? Do I need an MRI or an orthopedic examination for this? Years ago, there was a sign of meniscus degeneration, but I had no symptoms at all for many years, and I used to walk a lot regularly and sometimes went swimming.

Thank you everyone and I appreciate your input! 40/M
