When/how to take metformin?

Hi! I'm starting metformin today as I have insulin resistance. My 2h glucose test showed my glucose rising to 202, staying at 160 at a 2h mark and dropping to 42 when I got home. It's an extended release version and 500 mg for now. How should I take it to minimize side effects? It says take with the largest meal. My appetite hasn't been great lately, I haven't been eating much tbh. My biggest meal is probably breakfast but I already taje strattera, inositol and prenatal with breakfast ans then zoloft and second dose of inositol before bed. Should I take it with dinner to minimize side effects? Can I take it together with inositol? Hoping for some personal experience.

Joyless on a low dose after 8 months

Hi! I started strattera back in mid December after not having a good time on stimulants (they did not work for me). I started on 40 but the side effects were too much so we went to 18. I stayed on 18 for some time and while I experienced many different side effects (from daytime drowsiness to urinary), I also saw a lot of changes. Eventually it started to subside a bit so I was upped to 25 mg. I've been on 25 since mid March. I definitely felt the effects. It calmed me and really helped with executive functioning.

Then some time in May I started getting wild pre-period symptoms (between 3 and 10 days before my period). During luteal, it's almost like the meds didn't work and the symptoms were much worse. I would be irritable and "crazy", anxious, very hyper and then when my period comes it's back to normal.

Then I noticed those similar days (every once in a while) outside of that pre-period timeline. I have pcos, so it's hard to tell which phase I'm in, though, and I suspect hormonal fluctuations.

Now, for the past couple of days I feel like I don't experience enough joy. It's hard to describe. I'm not exactly said, just the absence of happiness. Normally, my baseline is happy/joyful. When I started strsttera it even upped a bit (but not in a bad, manic, way). Now I'm tired, blunt and just feel weird. I thought it could be hormonal things happening, but I don't know. Could strattera cause that after I've been using it for 8 months? I still have my executive functioning so I feel like it's still helping (I love that I can just get up when I want to pee and not wait until the very lsst minute). Focus has been on and off.

Anybody experienced anything similar?

Gyno won't prescribe metformin

So, I have been having horrible symptoms of insulin resistance. I crash after meals when I eat pretty much anything other than pure protein. Even having a bit of salad (witb protein!!) crashed me. And cherries which didn't use to. I also feel horrible pms symptoms 4-10 dsys before my period. And I'm thirsty all the time.

I had very irregular periods but for the past 4 cycles they've been montly.

I went to my gyno with all of that and she said that metformin is a bit of a mystery drug and wouldn't be prescribed because I have regular periods and I'm not diabetic.

I'm not overweight and I even managed to lose some weight because at this point I'm pretty much afraid to eat as I don't want to lose hours in my day.

Is this... normal?

She said it's more of a pcp thing. So I got an appt for end of next month and will be asking for a referral to an endocrinologist. But the wait time I'm sure going to be fun with that one.

Has anyone experienced anything similar? Any advice?

I got myself a glucose monitor to get some data before my pcp appt and inositol as I read it could help a bit. I'll also be addressing my brain symptoms (my body hates progesterone) with my psych for any relief options there...

How do you feel about swearing during therapy?

I've been seeing my therapist for about 2 years now and she has helped me so much in my journey of self-discovery and healing.

Recently, after we dug into the topic of complex trauma, I've dropped a couple of f bombs during my sessions and she seemed to be okay with it. In my daily life, I swear a lot among friends or with my husband. I avoid it at work although my colleagues say sh*t or drop an occasional f bomb in small meetings.

But I don't know if my therapist is actually okay with that. While I'd like to swear on occasion to be fully myself, I don't want to make her uncomfortable.

I plan to discuss it with her and ask a question directly but curious how you feel when your patients swear during sessions.

Ok to wear watch?

My tattoo artist gave me directions to apply A&D for the first 3 days and then she said I can use lotion. When can I stop applying lotion consistently? I've been washing my tattoo with antibacterial soap twice a day and applying a thin layer of cerave lotion. I think it's healing well. It's been exactly two weeks now.

I'm also wondering if it's okay for me to wear my watch again. The lowest point of the tattoo is on top (or the best is just under) the wristnand. I washed the wrist band and the watch but wondering if it's safe for me to wear my watch again. It's been pain in the neck to wear it on the right arm.

Looking for thoughts and advice. This is my second tattoo but the first one is on my back and was 12 years ago so I don't remember much about aftercare instructions.

I've seen a lot of posts saying you won't feel any positive effects until much later, sometimes several months into treatment, and only after being on the dosage of 80 mg or higher. Has anyone experienced the opposite effect?

I was on 18 for a while (we actually started with 40 but I couldn't deal with the side effects so decided to titrate). I was on it for 3 months and definitely felt the effects. My executive functioning got better, focus improved, no anxiety for the first time ever, and I was genuinely happier (listened to music every day). But it still felt natural, not like on stimulants when I felt "fake" energy.

But then it started to wind down. We upped the dosage to 25 mg. So the new round of side effects again. But I'm not seeing the return of the positive effects. Has anyone experienced that?

I have a call with my provider next week but wanted to hear other people's experience. I'm afraid to up the dose because I'm not sure I'll be able to tolerate it. My POTS and Raynaud's have become a bit worse on 25mg compared to 18mg, so worried that 40 and up might not work for me.
