I recently started as SLT at a school with declining numbers (we have 94) in a rural church school in Kent, while small classes are great for wellbeing, we desperately need to get numbers up otherwise we're going to struggle. I'm trying to think of what I can do to help (I know it's the head's job but he seems very stressed by it and I want to help) - any suggestions?

This year, our head wants to ring fence the first 5 minutes of the afternoon for mindfulness to ease out of playground drama - other than videos or “sit while I read a script” - does anybody have any ideas for mindfulness activities for a year 6 class

Just left a lovely school for a leadership role another school down the road (same council, same county, literally down the road) - Got my paycheck today and its a little less than I normally got (about 300 less) so I mentioned it to my former SBM and they said my contract finished on the 23rd of july ...when does my new one start? I said 1st september and he said that means I won't be paid for August .

Now this isn't my first move between schools in the same county, but we were always paid for the summer when we moved school (obviously I am planning, prepping, going into school, etc.; I am still employed by the same council, etc.). This is something I 1000% can not survive without. What are my options? Am I buggered here?

Update - have spoken to union and council HR and its all been sorted, I can stop eying up cardboard boxs and deciding which kidney to sell, all is good. Phew! (No idea how to close this!)

Good morning fellow academics , as we approach the end of this academic year I was wondering what you thought your biggest takeaway/lesson was? Was this the year you finally mastered relationships? found the resource? finally jumped from power point to Canva? What’s had the biggest impact on you and your teaching?

i’m often confused why I see people who are sort against vaccines go on about how important is to take ivermectin - what makes this any different to the vaccines like the Covid jab? Also, isn’t it like a horse medicine?

Realistically speaking, how long does it take for c day to actually take place? Was the whole world doomed in 24 hours or was it over several days? Roughly speaking, what was the timeline of the collapse?

I’m looking ahead to next year when I’ll be teaching year six and one of the things that I would really like to build up proofreading and improving skills. Someone has suggested me editing stations but I’ve never really seen them work in practice or really understood how they fit into a lesson. Has anyone had experienced running editing stations in their classroom and had success with them especially in year six? In my head, I’m just imagining a table for the dictionaries of thesauruses which will seldom be touched.

I keep seeing these ads for teaching during the football and on my feed and as ever, they make teaching out to be the most glamorous exciting fun thing ever, which was we all know it’s far from. What do we all think about these ads?

although I am leaving a few weeks, my current head has asked me to put together the school's climate action plan for my success to take over with. (which I don't mind as I know it's an important part of our school development plan) However, after looking at examples from other schools, I'm not really sure how to get started. has anyone had any success developing a climate action plan for a primary school?

I’m sorting a new School in September in a senior lead year role and the head is just asked me if I’d fancied doing an NPQSL to go with it. Are these worth doing? What can I expect?

I really struggle with addiction to my phone and computer - been the same ever since I got access to the internet some 20ish years ago - I sit down to work and I find myself just drawn to distractions - I’ll have a podcast on or a YouTube video and soon before I know it, I’m doomscrolling twitter or Reddit.

I’ve tried blockers and screen time apps but nothing seems to work - I can’t not use the internet as I need it for my work (our work is all cloud based) but the temptation to doomscroll and get distracted is too much

Any tips?

Working from home means you’re spending your own money on electricity and resources, it means that there’s no reason to be late because of travel arrangements and it suits childcare better which apparently is very important for stopping declining birth rates, other than micromanaging and watching over your shoulder, is there literally any benefit to being in an office if a job can be done remotely?
