My family told me I’m SELFISH for wanting to become a doctor.
Rant
I’m currently on a gap year because the plan was to work first and save money before entering medical school. Unfortunately, because of the current job market in my field (pooling, hiring freezes, oversupply, and the backer system) finding a job has been incredibly difficult.
I took the NMAT and got a PR of 96, hoping it would give me a better chance at scholarships and admission to a state university.
Instead of being happy for me, my family says I’m selfish because I’m not thinking about them. They believe that pursuing medicine would only burden them financially for another 4–5 years.
The painful part is that they no longer want to support me in any way. Since I graduated, I haven’t received any financial help from them.
Yes, I’m hoping to qualify for a CHED MSRS or get into a state university. But even then, there are still expenses before any scholarship benefits begin. I need money for application fees, enrollment, transportation, and possibly a dorm since the nearest state university is about three hours away from our home.
VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE
I’m a PHRN (November 2025 passer) and have been applying to hospitals for the past seven months but haven’t had any luck yet.
Does anyone know of any tertiary or secondary-level hospitals that accept volunteer nurses? I’m willing to volunteer for up to a year just to gain clinical experience before applying to Saudi Arabia.
I’m even willing to shoulder any necessary fees, as long as the hospital provides a Certificate of Employment or any official certificate documenting my experience.
Thanks.
