Gaunts Ghosts Mandrake

So, long road trip, been listening to Sabbat Matyr.

There's a Mandrake that was hired by the chaos forces called Skarwael.

The interesting things about this guy, hes a fighter pilot in a Raven Strike fighter and has white skin like other drukhari, but actively refers to himself as a mandrake.

Is this just old lore and what a mandrake is has changed? Or is he only just beginning his journey into becoming and actual shadow-thing?
